I was wondering about this... are there any good Thai, Japanese, Indian, etc places in Ocala?

Thanks everyone for your responses!

No idea but there is a very good Brazilian steak house there. For good Greek go to Tarpon Springs.

Do find Sakura a good Japanese restaurant in the Bubble. Also Kayame and Kung Fu are passable Thai.

Oh yea! I'll have to try them when I get there this fall, thank you!

And yes, I agree with Tarpon Springs for Greek food... it's hard to find good Greek restaurants up here in the upper midwest.

Lived there for a week, commuted from mid town to the USCG at the Battery to take pilot exams.
No trees, no grass, LOTS and LOTS of cement and steel. .

Financial headquarters of my last company was in Brooklyn, took trains from long Island.
People just hang out on the street when there is nothing else to do, and way too many hang out at the same time.
Just a place where there are no redeeming qualities that I can't get better qualities elsewhere.

Driving down in May and going to take i287 western NJ just to avoid getting anywhere near it. .

eh, i rather go places I haven't been before. . Scandinavia is calling. .

You go way closer than I do. Take 84 to 81 in Scranton to loop way far around all the congestion.

After having been in NYC, myself, if Moses came down from the hill and said it was safe, I wouldn’t believe it.

Yes, like if I’m going to mug somebody I’ll make sure I do it on live camera…

Part of the problem is the media has to blast out the news whenever anything bad happens there.

Think NYC is safer than Chicago

It’s not the media, it’s personal experience. Each person I know in the last I don’t know how many years has been mugged or otherwise accosted in the city - not in the suburbs. My cousin-in-law teaches college there and dresses as an “urban gorilla” in his words, to get to his classes safely. And so on. You need to be edgy, you need survival skills to get around that city.

Chicago is a great comparison. When my husband and daughter were driving to Canada on a trip they stopped at a Holiday Inn as they usually do when they are traveling. There was blood on the walls of their room. Not a city they plan to visit too soon again.

Miss the outstanding ethnic foods we used to have regularly.

Miss Broadway shows and all the things NYC has to offer.

Still would never move back at this stage of our life

Wouldn't go back anymore. Last time I was there [ for a show, 5yrs ago] , the whole place looked like a slum.

FACT FOCUS: NYC crime is not worst ever, despite claims | AP News

You can compare relative crime rates of every major city in the US one against the other here:

2024 Compare Crime Rates

Ocala is much more dangerous than NYC.
Leesburg is much more dangerous than NYC.

Orlando is much more dangerous than NYC.
Peoria IL is much more dangerous than NYC.
Phoenix is much more dangerous than NYC.

I know certain news media loves to attack and endlessly play videos of crimes but NYC is safer than most cities in the US.

1) You can find data online :024: to support any position you wish to espouse.

2) I have heard rumors, which I choose to believe, that the police :police: in my city are increasingly refusing to take crime reports. (Due to being understaffed, and possibly, pressure from superiors.)

3) This is the best of all possible worlds. :loco:

Yes, it's the same for London. Get to the National Gallery and Portrait Gallery. Maybe Hampton. Get a curry and get out.

I'm viewing this at 1am central. Not sure what your point is.

I wouldn't want to be 20 miles from this. Not a place I'd want to be walking back to my apartment after a nice night out with friends. Looks like a good place to get mugged.

RRGuyNJ 03-30-2024 04:35 AM

Way too many people in too small of a place.[/QUOTE]

LOL That's what I say about the Villages as I try to convince myself to buy there. I'm getting closer to convincing myself.
