Swimdawg swims every day in the North and I would love to see her swim every day in the South. She needs a pool to do that in. She is my friend and I am wishing her a pool, and hoping that every one of her dreams comes true.:highfive::thumbup:

How many indoor pools would it take to accommodate how many thousands of February swimmers? Even at $50 a month I would envision waiting lists, and no spontaneous dips in the pool. Heck, even at $50 a swim.

ssmith 03-09-2012 07:55 AM

To be expected

Yep many thoughts on this one good and bad. You keep up your dream Swimdawg....as you have posted in the past you have ways to get things done.

The need is for lap swimming and exercise classes (sport pool of maybe 6-8 lanes), not a neighborhood adult pool. The need is also year-round, not just "February", because of intense sun exposure and skin cancer.

Maybe comparing it to having the weight-lifting and other machines available only outside in the sun and not in air conditioned rooms would get the point across as to what fitness swimmers deal with in the blazing sun....even at 4-7:00 p.m. in spring, summer and fall it's intense. Skin cancer is a real threat.

True. These pools are not just for "dippers" they would be for fitness and for swimmers.

Since we have the indoor pool at the Sharon Morse center and it's not being used, that might be a good place to start. But used for people who swim laps and for fitness?

I would have to vote NO on indoor pools in The Villages. Just a very, very impractical thing to do.

Maybe it would make more sense to open the sports pools at 5:00 AM for those who are truly interested in lap swimming. You would not have to worry about sun exposure. When I go to the pool at 7:00 AM it is not always daylight and the pools do have lights. Many serious swimmers are there at that time. When my husband coached swimming, their practices were at 5:30 AM.

.....Or we could get a job digging ditches in 45 degree temps in Dec. thru March, before the sun comes up.

But that wouldn't be classified as "Amenities", I'm pretty sure.

The "rumour mill" thinks the large indoor pool in the Sharon Morse Building will be filled in and replaced by a cafeteria. Not my rumour! It's something I heard because I'm in the building three times a week.

It wouldn't hurt to mention on the survey that it could be used for those who want an indoor pool.

Just sayin'. It is there and all.

I believe the bulding is owned by the Moffit Cancer Center and not by The Villages. Unless they own Moffit, which is entirely possible!

As Barefoot stated, there's already a perfectly good indoor pool here in TV, but no one wanted to pay to use it. Swimdawg, maybe you should investigate with the owners of this pool what it would take to make them re-evaluate their position and re-open the pool.

I may be dreaming but I seem to remember reading something about plans for another bowling alley in the Brownwood area, so that wish could be a possibility. The Morse bridge, not so much. I think you have to go to Sumter County for that one.

What no one has mentioned is that there are only six more executive golf courses planned to be built. Do you think that's gonna be enough?

Thanks for taking my back. Some folks think they know it all.

We probably DO!!

I live in a town of about 45,000. We have a heated pool (93 degrees) indoor that is used by the hospital for patient therapy with physical therapists. The pool is also used by the parks and rec department wellness program for warm water workout classes as well as open pool hours. I use the open pool time to strenghten my back muscles as I have back problems. Cost is $3.00 per visit.

I have visited TV twice and considered moving there, but by not having a heated indoor pool, I decided to stay where I am.

The Village Girl 03-09-2012 07:11 PM

If you can't be supportive...........

Be quiet!

Just because you don't swim laps doesn't mean we don't need at least one indoor pool for the people who do! If there is a pool here that isn't being used, that my friends, is a waste! Let's open it up and use it!

We all live here and we all have different interests. I don't think anyone wants to lose their favorite aminities but some of you certainly don't mind if it's not your sport! I for one am voting for the indoor pool and if I wasn't then I wouldn't comment!

Just like I'm not commenting on the indoor skating rink! I mean, REALLY??
