We were in a large home. I realized that we had more yard work and house work then we wan't. We then moves to a Villa. This works for us. Five of my neighbors have moved in the last few months. One went to an assisted living, one wanted to put in a pool, her parents across the street moved to be near her and to get a bigger garage. Two neighbors moved to go to Fenny. For all but two of them this was a second move. As circumstances change, so do housing desires. i once said I was never moving...but here I am. My next move will be to go home!

I don't think you can count "no moves" because, everyone who lives in The Villages has lived in one house already. The OP said that the average Villager lives in 3 houses, not that they move 3 times within The Villages. So, it is really only an average of 2 moves within The Villages.

Still Materially Right:

I can't imagine 1/4 of all the villages (including people who have just purchased in the last year or two) have moved six time.



Rhetorical: Have 1/4 of the people you know moved six times?? (or 1/3 of the people you know have moved eight times)

Whether it's 1, 2, 3, or more additional moves, seems to me it would add up to a lot of money just wasted on additional closing costs, realtor commissions, attorney fees and moving costs, plus a seller can rarely recoup full value on money they may have spent on home improvements and upgrades.
I just don't understand the willingness to just throw away that kind of money.

I agree...........I've wondered about those costs as well. People look at the gain on sale, but are spending dollars out of their unrealized gain buckets. Everyone is different. Like another Poster, we did a lot of research and soul searching prior to building.


I could see downsizing someday (maybe) or crappy neighbors. So far: good health, both alive and great neighbors.

We moved once...out of The Villages!

This is our second home in The Villages. The first one we had was a designer and we were snowbirds, part timers. When we decided to move here year around we built a little bit bigger home. We did not use an agent to sell our first house. We sold it furnished. To this home, we brought with us quite a bit of furniture from our house in Ohio.

Both homes were wonderful and the neighbors interesting and warm and we love both neighborhoods.

If you want to go bigger or smaller, the cost of moving is far less here than in the states north of here.

As for a third? Well you just never know.

I think the majority of those who move here have done extensive homework, on how to spend a chunk of their money. First home was a vaca home, 1.5 garage. Second home 3 bedroom, 2 garage. Third 2 car plus golf cart garage.
Now that we are here full time, Just looked at a home yesterday with 3 car and pool, same home design. I have no attachments to where I live now. I can pack and get a truck ready in 2 days so, moving is not a big deal.
As to 3 moves, I think most start with a home and plus up north, then move here full time selling up north, and get a larger home. Then with death comes the third move either to a smaller home, or assisted living. As younger gens move here it’s just part of life. Each of our kids are on their 7th move and up.

Thanks for all the great input on this subject. While I'm hoping to be happy for a long time in the first house in TV. I never say never ,you always need to be flexible because life throws you changes all the time. I hope to see y'all at the town squares or golf course in about 18 months if all goes as planned. Ken

Yeah, I've been going back and forth on the golf cart garage issue. I keep thinking do I really need that but then I feel like I'll regret it if I don't. Cheers

If you don't have a golf cart garage you may find it harder to sell your house for the price you want if it ever comes to that.
