I don’t I understand your reply. Taxes for Sumter do not go to Tallahassee.
The rest of your reply is confusing.

Hard to believe this post. Sumter county thanks you and appreciates your generous donation. Don't call us, we'll call you.

You mean because they know it’s an overpayment when they applied it against my account ? Of course they did.

Your over payment will be refunded in escrow when your taxes are prorated if you don't find satisfaction prior. It's not gone forever.

The check has cleared I have an electronic copy. I don’t want to wait 6-8 months or an escrow that may not happen. Used home sales are very slow to the pandemic

You can file Form DR-462 with the county to get a refund. But, I would hand carry the form to the tax office.

What is this form? Where do I get it and is this office open? Are you sure of all this ? Thank you

You can google it and print out the form online, fill it out, and take it to the county tax collector's office. There are detailed instructions on the Florida Department of Revenue website, if you need help.

It’s embarrassing however I overpaid my property taxes that were due 11-30-2020. I paid the higher amount due March 2021.

Can anyone let me know if they’ve done this? How to get the overpayment back ? Please don’t tell me to carry credit balance forward as I intend to put my home up for sale in the next 2 months or so?

I’ve contacted the tax office all I get is a recording and no return phone call. It was the phone number of Randy Mast. Thank you

Y will send you refund for difference no need to do anything may take a couple of weeks but you will get overpayment refunded to you same way it was paid.

Maybe, but I would apply for the refund because it will go to the state office that provides oversight over the county.

Go directly to tax office in Sumter by the police station. The girls are very helpful.

Alaska Butch 11-29-2020 12:06 PM

Call the county. Better yet is it that big a deal? Your paid up through next March!
