I thought only battery powered carts burned according to the EV haters? Oh but wait, the three cart fires this year were all gasoline powered. Hmmm. I bet they were also Yamahas.

I’ve left my car’s gas cap off by mistake. I could see it happening in the cart. Unfortunately the cart fill nozzle is in the engine compartment.

This post is a good reminder as leaving it off in a cart can have much more serious consequences.

Thanks for posting this.

Amen.
And a reminder about obtaining golf cart insurance, as these carts ain’t cheap

Update: The cart that went ablaze in Brownwood was a gas cart. After filling up with gas, the owner did not turn the tank cover tightly. Driving to Brownwood, gasoline leaked onto the engine. While parked, it caught on fire. Firemen did their best to quickly douse the flames. The cart, of course, was destroyed.(This is what I have been told. If anyone knows something different, please post. It is important we all remain safe.)

Hope the owner has cart insurance. $115 a year with Progressive through The Village Ins. Not a bad deal.

I tend to believe the propane heater cause. Highly unlikely that enuf has would spill out to reach the exhaust to ignite a fire even if you overfill the tank. All the newer carts have an overflow mechanism that diverts gas to the ground and away from the exhaust.

I think it is important to send this message: Make sure you secure your tank cap tightly. If it saves only one person, I did a good deed.

I have no idea how the cart in LSL caught on fire. If it was owner error wouldn't you want to know the facts? This way, you can make certain it does not happen to you.

Thank you Margaret, for the information!

I could not agree with you More!
The OP's Post is a good post.

First of all how do you know the gas cap was NOT tightened enough? The fire would’ve melted the plastic. It could’ve been electrical as well unless there was an expert at the scene on causes of fires there is NO way to tell what caused the fire. I’m just saying it could’ve been ANYTHING and not the gas cap which is a guess.

So following your logic there is no need for any uncommon event to be reported by anyone- to anyone- at any time.

I'll agree with the poster, why do I need to know?? So let me correct your logic.

1) does it have a direct effect on my life today? no
2) does it have a direct effect or restriction on my life in any way? no
3) is there anything I can do to reverse it? no
4) do NOT need to know.

Thanks for the post. It's a good reminder to make sure you replace the gas cap securely and hear that click when you tighten it. Great post.

Do you hear a click when you tighten the cap on your cart? Mine does not have a click, mine just tightens down like the top on a water bottle.

I looked but can't tell. In which of the 25 replies prior to yours is the OP being attacked?
