Update: The cart that went ablaze in Brownwood was a gas cart. After filling up with gas, the owner did not turn the tank cover tightly. Driving to Brownwood, gasoline leaked onto the engine. While parked, it caught on fire. Firemen did their best to quickly douse the flames. The cart, of course, was destroyed.(This is what I have been told. I’ve left my car’s gas cap off by mistake. I could see it happening in the cart. Unfortunately the cart fill nozzle is in the engine compartment.

This post is a good reminder as leaving it off in a cart can have much more serious consequences.

I tend to believe the propane heater cause. Highly unlikely that enuf has would spill out to reach the exhaust to ignite a fire even if you overfill the tank. All the newer carts have an overflow mechanism that diverts gas to the ground and away from the exhaust.

I feel fortunate this did not happen after we came home and parked in the garage. I might not be here today.

My advice would be to install a heat sensor on your garage ceiling. They are under $20 on Amazon. Many of my friends and neighbors have done this.
