Update: The cart that went ablaze in Brownwood was a gas cart. After filling up with gas, the owner did not turn the tank cover tightly. Driving to Brownwood, gasoline leaked onto the engine. While parked, it caught on fire. Firemen did their best to quickly douse the flames. The cart, of course, was destroyed.(This is what I have been told. If anyone knows something different, please post. It is important we all remain safe.)

Interesting, thanks for the post & pictures!

Why are people attacking the OP for posting a relevant story. If a cart fire doesn’t interest you then don’t click the thread. She didn’t post clickbait. I for one think it’s a great reminder. I’ve left my car’s gas cap off by mistake. I could see it happening in the cart. Unfortunately the cart fill nozzle is in the engine compartment.

This post is a good reminder as leaving it off in a cart can have much more serious consequences.

Thanks for posting this.

P.S. -Post #37 !! Gas > Electric.

IBTL!

I too was wondering how gasoline, spilled on the opposite side of the exhaust engine off, could ignite. Very suspicious.

JGibson 12-13-2023 09:36 AM

There would have had to be an igniter or spark to start the fire.

The cart was parked and it was cool that morning so I don't believe the gas on exhaust theory.

I think there is more to the story but yeah closing the gas cap is wise.

Sad

This is exactly what is happening to this awesome country. Social media hating. If the subject is not of your concern then why stir the pot. In sane to have such folks treat folks this way.

OP, thank you for posting. Many of us see your post as an excellent reminder that we can never be too careful. Whether the fire was caused by a loose gas cap, a propane heater or something else, I appreciate the "reminder" that we should all be careful and thoughtful, whether we're dealing with a gas cart or an electric cart. Thanks, again and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

The fire department was not able to make a determination. My insurance company did not investigate since it was a small claim and no loss of life and no major property damage. I contacted Yamaha several times and did not receive a call back.

I feel fortunate this did not happen after we came home and parked in the garage. I might not be here today.

My advice would be to install a heat sensor on your garage ceiling. They are under $20 on Amazon. Many of my friends and neighbors have done this.

margaretmattson is making false comments spreading rumors and is an idiot for doing so.

Passing along hearsay often gives incorrect information. But in this case it was meant to advise us to be careful and mindful of the things we do that carry some risk.
Margaretmattson meant well and brought the potential dangers of owning/operating a golf cart to TOTV. Thanks Margaret.
As for RobertWR, he claims ownership of said cart, but does not correct any misinformation, leaves us none the wiser and insults the OP. Thanks for nothing, Rob. And a bah humbug to you.

Thank you for this and for countering the misinformation.

Totally agree. The OP performed a public service.
