No I am not kidding. When I turned in my state drivers license for my Florida state license there was no test. They did not inform me of the tunnels and roundabouts here in the villages, then way should I have to be informed about golf cart safety, they do think so. Just another money maker idea. Watch what you are wishing for.

Smelly, Toxic Gas Golf Carts

How about for starts just banning GAS golf carts or at least requiring them to have emission control. Walking and biking in the Villages is miserable. Every time a gas golf cart passes, or you go through a tunnel, you get a snoot full of nasty smelling exhaust. Real healthy. Never mind fearing for your life on the multi-model paths and streets if you are on foot or a bicycle . The truth of the matter is the Villages is poorly designed for all the types of traffic and the number of users. There are no sidewalks (except south of 466 on the main boulevards which is a start) and no walking or biking trails that do not permit motorized vehicles. In a community of senior citizens that is INSANE! One of the main forms of exercise in that age group is WALKING & BIKING! The so called Springdale fitness trail is a golf cart path. Try relaxing and going for a walk when you are dodging golf carts and inhaling fumes. I am not against golf carts as a mode of transportation, but plan the community to accommodate all types of traffic that is going to be permitted. The streets are simply not wide enough for cars and golf carts and bicycles and walkers and dog walkers! There is no wonder why there are many accidents...I just can't figure out why there aren't a lot more walkers and bicyclist killed!

So, did you buy your place sight unseen.......and discover all these problems after you moved in? Funny you did not notice there were no sidewalks in Chatham.

No it doesn't answer it. Please do. Will they be banned in the future because of accidents?

Perhaps there might be a compromise between banning and not banning. For example: They might consider lowering the maximum speed of a cart to 16 mph.. :)

There are two Villages: One in the summer when you can cross a major boulevard and there's no traffic in sight. And then there's the "winter Villages," a time when streets can be busy.

Would you be willing to ban automobiles burning gasoline,or just golf carts burning gas?

Cars have emissions control devices but I don't believe the same can be said for golf carts. I'm not taking sides, I'm just stating what I believe to be a fact.

I just remembered something. Way back in 1969, while camping at Florida Campland, I met a retired man with emphyzema. When the conversation came around to how he thought he might have gotten it, he said he worked for many years repairing small engines. With the garage door open, he would start them up briefly after repairing them, to see how they would run. I imagine it's not all that different than the brief exposure one might get in a tunnel.

Chronic lung disease became the 3rd. leading cause of death in 2008.

By the looks of your avatar...you are a cruiser. I would be worried after the Italy incident that cruise ships not golf carts would be band LOL.......

The future of golf carts

I was an invited guest at the FRUITLAND PARK CITY COMMISION meeting
This past week and they had the first reading for adopting an ordenence
To make FRUITLAND PARK a golf cart friendly city.
This would allow both golf carts & LSV vehicles to be used on there streets with speed limits under 35 MPH.
This New ordenence was presented to increase commerce in that city.
just as a note the ordenence included an annual safety inspection of the vehicles
Presented by the police dept.
So to answer the original question, no I don't think golf carts would be eliminated from The Villages just better awareness of the carful use of the carts and maintaining good equipment.
