Plus, there is a much higher ratio of wetlands and preserves down south. This is all part of the growing pain. Now, the price of beer at Sawgrass & McGrady's...I agree that is straight up gouging. Then again, the prices are not a secret. Vote with your wallet. I do.

By the way, I saw two pairs of love bugs on my front porch yesterday. They're making an early appearance.

I too had love bugs yesterday, they have been lite the last few periods I hope this isn't a sign of heavy infestation.

And if I recall, they are typically selling “craft style” beers at Sawgrass which are typically a little higher priced than the typical domestics.

I believe you are right. We went during happy hour and they were 2 for $7. At least the ones we had.

McGrady’s has a “happy hour” from 3-5 pm when you can get domestic drafts for $3 bucks . And their glasses are a full pint. Don’t know if that applies on weekends.

Best price for beer is at Mallory. $8 (or so) for a pitcher $2 and some change for a glass.

Worst for beer prices are Fenney Grill and Havana where they get you for $15/$16 + for a pitcher.

Fenney Grille has the best cocktail hour, anything they have, liquor, wine, beer, is half price and you don't have to buy two and you don't have to drink that swill with a name you never heard of. I wish all restaurants were like that.

Yep , but happy hour (like McGrady’s ) is 3-5 pm. Otherwise you’ll pay what I quoted.

Our golf group goes to Fenney for lunch sometimes , well before happy hour ! :(

Yikes. I’m the OP. I simply reported what happened factually. Please don’t say that I’m “bashing”. I play golf at least 3X week and have plenty to buy drinks after. I love ALL of TV. And love that the Developer is continuing the build full blast to the South. IMO more the merrier. Share the happiness no matter where in TV.

The north was built over a 30 year time period, south of 44 started 5-1/2 years ago, I think we have quite a lot down her in such a short time and we are getting the new hospital too. The developers are working hard to keep us all happy and happy we are with very few exceptions.

You're going to get your very own hospital?

COOL!

Wait, will those north of 44 be able to use it?

Whodatsaywhodat 08-27-2022 05:58 PM

We also played yesterday and your assessment was spot on. The mosquitos were “huge” but were mainly near four or five holes and were in attack mode. There were so many around the water cooler and tee box on the Par 3 8th hole on the back nine that it was nearly impossible to tee off. And it sure felt like they were biting but we didn’t stick around to let them. Our golf cart and golf bags were covered with them from our brief stop at the tee box. The Pro shop was notified a week ago about this problem. They really need to at least address these impacted areas. Unfortunately, the 8th and 9th holes are very close to the golf front homes.

When you're the only game in town, you can be unreasonable with pricing, quality and playability.

In my opinion, the southern areas of The Villages are marketed with smoke & mirrors. It's nothing like northern area and never will be. It doesn't look like The Villages, it doesn't "feel" like The Villages and the demographic is different.

Agree!

Only if you want to drive 30 minutes or so on average from the north but wait, you already have a hospital with the best emergency department in TV..

We like it this way. Looked around above 44, didn’t like it at all. To each their own.

Exactly. Where we moved from was out in the country. It was 20-30 minutes to ANYTHING. Here, I can get to a dozen or so grocery stores, two townsquares and a nearly unlimited amount of recreational activities in 20 minutes.

One nice thing about “down here” is that most of the people are still young and energetic. They’re also not snobs.

I still can’t wrap my mind around why so many people up north just can’t be happy that we’re happy. It’s just weird.

I agree completely with Ken, and the BS about not looking or feeling like the villages, we moved from the north part of the villages to the South area, enjoy it better down here, to each his own. I guess the north bashing of the south will never end. Enjoy life, and don't feel like you have to bad mouth what others are enjoying.

Correction, it’s quite possibly the absolute worst emergency department in the entire country.

You don’t know what you are talking about. There are about 7 golf courses under construction right now south of 44. Bet you weren’t even here when the northern area was under construction like the south is now.

If you are happy in the Village that you live in, why are you so negative about where others live.
Have been in TV since 2007, LSL was a ghost town, for shopping with one grocery. SS was the established area, and that’s where we shopped. Our first area was Mallory and we choose to move farther south.

Many of us have watched as the new areas grow, new progress and in awe of what was coming. We out grew house 1 and 2. Our current house is a designer with golf cart garage, in what used to be the middle of TV:girlneener:

We are now building guess where to the area YOU think doesn’t feel like the villages.. this will be our Fourth house, heading south in the land you detest.

It’s OK, we hope the smoke and mirrors you speak of will keep us off everyone’s radar, and let us enjoy the Villages We pay for and enjoy living in.

You could however volunteer to buy me a free house where you think we should live, and Will gladly take your money:pepper2:

Mission Inn, Deer Island, Juliette Falls, Arlington Ridge, Orange County National….all within 1 hr of Bonifay/Havana…check for aeration first, and most offer senior or Villager discount by request.

Southern Oaks was the only golf course built in the last 8 years ... it was on the "promise program" for at least 3 years prior to that.

The southern area is scheduled for a couple of Exec courses & Pitch and Putt venues. As far as I know, there are zero confirmed sightings, of a new Championship course under construction, anywhere in The Villages.

If it was up to me I was ready to quit on hole #12 and go back to the Starter for a credit. But the other guys wanted to stick it out. It just got worse. Especially close to the water…. We passed by a white service truck off the cart path and the side was covered with hundreds of them. It truly ruined the round as we simply had to rush shots. Not fun…

We decided to drown our sorrows with a beer at the center Bar at Sawgrass. The guy buying brought 4 plastic glasses of beer and said “guess how much”. We all guessed $4 a glass. He said they don’t serve in pitchers as we typically get after rounds at other places. And they charged $7.00 per glass!!! Was like almost $30! A pitcher at other TV restaurants is about $13. What a ripoff.

So, we won’t golf at Southern Oaks until fall, and no more Sawgrass. Yikes.

This works:

Can't do anything about the bugs. The high prices are something else. Maybe caused by the high rent charged by the owners, and or the greed of the businesses. The solution is play golf and eat an any of the many other choices here. Leave that place to the residents who have more than they can ever spend. The menu sucks anyway.

Plans for future additions include three more championship courses, six executive layouts, three pitch-and-putts, a putting course, and a southern branch of The Villages Golf Academy with driving range.

Work has started on at least two Championship and one of the Exec courses South of the Turnpike described the the Continuing the Dream" videos.

Take a drive down Marshbend Trail and 470 of you haven't lately. They are working as far as the eye can see.

Ha! Good one! Deplorable conditions but cheap and fun to play. Front nine used to be a theme park, complete with dinosaurs. Most likely the worst course conditions you've ever experienced. You get what you pay for.
