So, just for converstion sake, you are saying any home without bags has no one home? We don't generate enough trash to put ours out twice a week. Just saying... :)

No word yet on what was taken. It's starting to make me a little uneasy. What is it with Sanibel?? This is the third burglary in about 3 months.

So, after 4 pages of posts, I saw absolutely NOTHING of this being a THIRD burglary on Adrienne Way - I claim it DID NOT HAPPEN.

Just some of the "I heard it happened" from neighbors at the pool or rec centers but NOTHING to substantiate what happened - which was NOTHING.

I am glad I do not live South of 466A!!!

Why?

New Flash - Contrary to the Morse Family Propaganda Machine - Crime does happen in the Villages. This is fact despite the silence of the "Good News Paper,' WVLG and the lies of the sales agents who work for the developer (One actually told a friend in my presence that "crime was non-existent" in the Villages. Of course, I called her on it). With that said, the Villages is one of the safest communities anywhere in the country. However, as the Villages grows and becomes more prominent as a Florida population center, the frequency of crime will increase. As residents, we need to maintain the same level of vigilance and common sense that we had before we moved to the Villages. We can not prevent someone from kicking a door in, but we can lock our houses and cars and call law enforcement when something looks suspicious.

Was this part really necessary to make your point?

I would challenge anyone to find a safer community of approximately 100,000 residents that is safer than The Villages. Please cite your sources or provide links.

What is the worst crime you know of personally in The Villages? Did it occur because of outsiders in The Villages or was it an issue in The Villages? When did this crime occur?

Murder. July 2006. Diana Miller, 63 was murdered in her home in Springdale. Her 71 year old husband, James, was shot in the head, but survived. Assailants did not live in The Villages. Marion County sheriff's detectives said Renaldo McGirth, 20, and two accomplices, Jarrord Roberts, 22, and Theodore Houston, 19, tried to rob the Millers at their home in The Villages of Springdale. Villages killer is youngest inmate on Florida's death row - Orlando Sentinel

That's probably the worst I am aware of. Not personally, of course. So I could be wrong.

Their daughter, age 40, who lived with them was involved with the killers. The daughter was heavily into drugs and a huge problem to her parents. They made the mother get on the internet to order things for them after they shot her once in the chest. Read more...it is bad.

Here is more about it.

Two meth labs in the last year. One by young adults renting in the Villages and one by an older adult living with his mother in The Villages.

I think you miss read my post. I did not say third burglary on Adrienne Way....it was the third burglary in Sanibel. I found this out by our neighbor who is a friend of there people who got burglarized. Why would I make this up?? My husband saw the police at their home as well. It did happen. Also, they will catch the person who did this and I will bet it is someone who works at this end of town, which is why the burglaries are occurring here. Just my thought.

I read your post to mean three altogether in Sanibel, Happinow.

The second burglary in Sanibel--same modus operandi--happened to my friend's next-door neighbor. That one was in the paper for sure. So there were a confirmed two, and I think I remember that one happened before the one I mentioned, making three total.

happinow -
I just did a quick search of the forums and found previous threads re break-ins in sanibel [cofirming the most recent was the 3rd]:

I understood that you did not mean the 3rd break-in on Adrienne Way! :)

I wouldn't imagine a local ordinance like loitering would even apply.

I guess the police would need to set up surveillance and catch a drug transaction in process in order to make an arrest, and what's the probable cause for that? I'm also doubtful that anyone would walk to a public restroom to shoot up when they could easily do that in their home. She's not living on the street with nowhere else to go.

Thank you, the voice of reason. The police have limited resources and are unlikely to pursue action unless they had more than just suspicions to work with.

Good post. Yes we have become a large community and since we are not a secure gated community, anyone can easily get in. It pays to be careful. I'm sure The Villages looks like a bunch of rich people to outsiders, and tempting to thieves.
