I'm re reading this thread and there are specific comments I read before that are now gone. Does this happen often on here?

It happens when people post things that are mean spirited, derogatory or directly demeaning to another person. If you find a post that is objectionable you can click the red triangle in the upper right-hand corner of the post and send a message to the moderator. They will review and possibly delete the post.

Or sometimes people post things then remove the post themselves for various reasons.

Gun violence. Not at all.

It was just a satirical juxtaposition to your comment on people in other (gated) communities not being prepared, as follows.

"You could run to a gated community but those may be the most vulnerable as they think nothing can happen within their walls and may be unprepared, access can be gained at any time."

Earlier, you indicated the gun post was supposed to be humor so I wasn't prepared to consider the post as just plain ole satirical juxtaposition. Sigh.... :rolleyes:

Maybe she got it confused with the supposed robbery of a couple of customers on Dec. 1 at Gator's Dockside at Spanish Springs. You know, the one where the perp doesn't have any ears.

When I posted on another thread about the robberies in "The Villages" I wasn't just talking about Sanibel! Another poster said I didn't read all the threads so I didn't understand that this was a concern... That poster was right. I don't have time to read all the threads. That would mean sitting on my computer all day reading TOTV.... And I don't have time for that.

Let me be clear. There are robberies in The Villages that aren't being reported by the news. Not just in Sanibel but in The Villages! Not just breaking into homes but weapons as well...

I don't know if The Villages is a "safe" place to live or not. But I know the fact that these robberies are not being reported in the news is giving people a sense of security that maybe they shouldn't have.

One of the residents sent out an email about an incident that happened... Something we knew about because it happened to someone in our hood. They received a notice from The Villages that maybe it isn't a good idea to send that kind of email out.... It scares the residents.

My husband has has to go to court because he was slugged trying to protect an older female resident of The Villages. He said that if you sat in court you would be VERY concerned about the robberies and aggravated sexual assaults, in The Villages some with weapons!

Happienow tried to come on here and tell you about another one. Many of you wanted to make her out to be a liar. Thanks... Thanks a lot! Because the next time it happens... Do you think she will want to come on here and post it???

Did your husband get slugged outside of Athens at the Cruise In last Saturday. Something happened and a woman was sprawled out on the ground.

No... Slugged at the gas station six months ago... An older lady was being verbally accosted and physically threatened by a lawn service owner at the station.

AGGRAVATED SEXUAL assaults.......WITH WEAPONS??????? Yikes!!!! If that is going on here, I for one want to know. So, if this is true and any of you have info regarding this...please post. I'd move out.....fast!!!!! I never had assaults with weapons in my neighborhood back home and I don't want to live anywhere that it goes on...especially if it doesn't get reported for whatever reason.

I am certain many incidents occur in TV are not reported. I know of some in our neighborhood that have not been reported. However, there are incidents in EVERY neighborhood in America that go unreported.

FROM WHO, in what agency, what part of the official villages sent an email saying exactly WHAT? ??????? That is VERY hard to believe. There have been so many over the top emails I have seen circulating but I haven't ever heard of anyone getting any kind of response from The Villages.


Happinow was very clear in her post about the first breakin and the second and people were confused if she was talking about a recent third breakin in Sanibel. I don't know that anyone has cleared that up yet. I have heard of two, and the armed robbery at Codys, but not a third in Sanibel. Do you know of a third Angie? I asked Meta Minton a couple of days ago and she hadn't heard of another one.


Why would both The Sun that is NOT owned by the developer and Meta Minton's online news be not printing these things IF they were happening?

It took days for the robbery at Spanish Springs to show up in the paper I'm not sure why ... or why it even showed up when it did.

The guy who hit him had been convicted of 13 felonies before that... Don't you think something like that would have been reported???

Someone came on here trying to tell people about the problems at the squares and it just gets shut down... We have been told by friends who work for The Villages it's true! For crying out loud.. You think all these people are lying???

We have been told there was a third by other people who are not on TOTV. By people who live in that area. Regardless of THAT one.. I posted about another one that was ignored about a TV taken from a lanai next to the Captiva parking lot.

Again.... I don't care if you believe me or not. The letter was not mine to quote or post. We all knew about the letter and my husband said he saw it. The person who got it isn't one to lie about it. But.. just for the sake of argument... (not that anyone does that here) let's just say there were "only" two in Sanibel. It still doesn't diminish the fact that there is trouble in River City!

Where I come from.... All police reports are posted in the paper. That doesn't seem to be the case here. Now... That being said, I'm not sure how many times people are calling the police or calling VCDD. I would suggest, when there is a problem, people stop calling VCDD and call the police. VCDD has no authority.

We had three couples Monday night for a pretty special meal. Two of them we have known more than forty years.


Santa has been here and the tree has lots of surprises under it and daughter one and son in law two and grandchild two will be arriving late tomorrow night. Granddaughter one is a little sad as she is now part of the work force and has to put out the news. (lack of seniority) But she has a paying job and we are looking to live off the grandkids here pretty soon.;)

Don't worry. There are NOT aggravated sexual assaults with weapons happening in The Villages. Just some people trying to stir the soup to get their moment in the spotlight by posting nonsense.

The Villages is not 100% crime free but comes mighty close to it. Even the supposed armed robbery at Gators Dockside on Dec. 1 has never been confirmed as being an actual event.

Will she be putting out the news on the crime spree here in The Villages?

Seems like a lot of "we heard", "I was told", "told by friends", stuff being passed along as fact.

After reading this thread about various break ins (actual number undetermined, apparently) AND the thread written by the homeowner whose home was recently robbed, I have decided that a security system might be a good thing to add to our monthly expenses budgeted for our lives there.

There is no perfect, totally safe place to live..... sad but true.

We obviously think TV is a fantastic place to live or we would not have our bags packed and a closing date set.... But we can not control who comes in and out and there are people with evil intentions anywhere you go.

Opportunity exists and we have decided to face that realistically.
We will do what we need to to protect ourselves and our hard earned property.

I must say, I do wish the local paper would list the "police blotter". Informed residents can be more aware and watchful. I think that would create a positive environment for us all.

I live south of 466A. There have been burglaries in Sanibel, Collier, Hillsborough.
There have been two break ins at Seabreeze and Lake Miona. Car windows were smashed while women were in the rec centers around 2 in the afternoon. Ignorance is bliss at times but it's good to know what is really going on. Check police records.

People have come on here before me and tried to post what is happening in The Villages and are met with resistance such as this. They have posted about the kids in the villages and posters come on here posting as if these are just a bunch of kids trying to have fun... Uh huh... I've seen them...

They have posted about coming out to their golf carts and kids having taken over sitting in them... They have posed about the cars being vandalized at the squares and the kids trying to break into the sales office. Each time, this is the response they get.

The Villages thought there were enough problems with stealing from the homes, they put GPS's in their appliances to catch the crooks. They now have EXTRA security at Brownwood!

I love it here.. I'm trying to get many of my friends to move here. It's beautiful! But don't think for a minute that I don't watch and get plate numbers to any vehicle that I don't think belongs here... Or stop them and ask questions.

For crying out loud... They just caught a guy stealing packages from the doors of residents! It was because people were paying attention they caught him! But as long as people believe nothing happens here... We are easy pickins.....

Enjoy The Villages... I do... I just do it with my eyes wide open. I don't shrug people off when they try to tell me that something happened. I WANT to know....

Yep.. Now I have my 15 minutes of fame. I will log off knowing... At least one person listened and will be more cognizant of their surroundings.

It's not that we don't want to know...or are blind to what goes on. We just don't need it sensationalized or reported in a way that makes it sound like we are ridden with crime. Look around outside the villages and a good percentage of florida....it's blighted. We are a relatively small area that is surrounded by decay. If you consider the percentages, and crime statistics...TV is doing quite well as far as crime goes.......are we crime free? Of course not, but in reality, we are far,far better off than other areas in Florida...all of Florida.

How do you check the police records?

This is not big time stuff with kids hanging out in a parking lot or sitting in a golf cart. No damage was done from what I read.

Stealing appliances from homes under construction happens.

Anyone that has packages left on their steps is asking for trouble anywhere but it is not violent crime but just petty burglary.

As I said, The Villages is not 100 percent crime free but is the safest place from violent crime (of similar size) that I know.

Ok, you have made this claim numerous times. Without proof of your statement, how is anyone to believe it? You, nor anyone else, has any clear concise records on crime either real or fictitious. Your claims have no more validity than those claiming to have information to the contrary.

I thought the info was to keep those on their toes..thanks for upbeat update s...I don't expect tv to be perfect...but...Like to be informed.... I have a house south of 466a and have no worries

We live here. We talk to people. We don't work. We are out interacting and communicating all day, all night, MaryANN!!!! We look out windows, drive down paths, gather in groups day after day after day after day. The sirens are generally for the people who are sick or who don't know how to drive or get in the path of a selfish know it all who doesn't give a crap.


There is NO conspiracy to keep all these horrible crimes hush hush...but a forum such as this is a petri dish for rumors. Most of which take on a life of their own.


Call the police department and ask THEM if you think a bunch of stuff is happening here and being covered up.
