Parking spaces, grocery carts [large and small] and stocked shelves available at Publix and Winn-Dixie on Bichara Blvd [near Spanish Springs]! Or have I just been fortunate at the various times I have shopped those stores? lol After reading the tales of shopping at Colony - grocery or otherwise - am happy to have purchased a home on the historic side! Seems that the toughest part of the shopping trip is crossing 441/27! ;)

'tis the season, as they say! I was in Colony (though not Publix) yesterday and the parking lot was very full...that said though I got an immediate spot right in front of Beall's Outlet. Lady in car in front of me had by-passed it and got mad when I pulled into it. I'm not sure what her issue was as she came around the corner, same as me and I had no problem pulling in.
Was "out and about" midday today and yes there was traffic and loads of folks shopping but one finds the better roads to travel (the ones less traffic on). I never go to the Publix in Colony to do "big" grocery shopping just because of the volumn of people there. I shop at others within T.V. and haven't had an issue such as was stated here! Forget Aldi on Wednesdays (when their flier comes out)...probably the same for other stores when their ads come out. Shop early or later and it's better!! We've not gotten to the point of thinking "someplace else" is a better place to live. The Villages has been a great experience for the 6+ yrs we've been here. Traffic?? Try Orlando or any other metro city and re-think that ours is terrible!! |
Regarding the increased (seasonal and overall) population and the resulting crowding, I have to wonder. Do people really think that by complaining about it here something's going to change? It is what it is. I don't think that suggestions that others leave so that you don't feel crowded are helpful. If it has gotten to the point where you just can't stand it anymore, I respectfully suggest that perhaps its you that needs to move.

The week before Super Bowl is extremely busy at all Publix Stores. I worked at Mulberry Grove Publix for several years, many of which were in the Deli. Just breathe, shop earlier (most stores open at 7am) or after dinner. Relax. I can assure you all of the Publix associates are doing the very best they can. And Publix Stores are employee owned.

We are one of the dreaded snowbirds and shop after 7 pm. Not a problem parking or shopping. Perhaps the volume of motorists and shoppers was also higher today due to the chili cookout at Sumter and the rain.

We went to Southern Trace Publix today.. no carts.. parking at a premium.. I thought - uh oh, this will be fun,, but I have to say everyone was in a good mood.. buying their Super Bowl snacks and patiently waiting in line ( which moved at a normal pace).. I didn't do the deli, which looked extremely buzy, but I must say, the experience shopping was not as bad as I had at first impression.I survived and so did husband.. I think you make it grumpy if you go in the store grumpy..
