The only NO CDW restriction sign I have seen is in the Lady Lake Post Office.

This site may answer many questions. The trend for the last 30 years has been toward less restriction on carrying weapons. If you surf this site that will be explained in a year by year graphic. It explains the permitting requirements state by state. Personally, I have two state CDW permits and a third that is nationwide.

State by state reciprocity maps...very informative.

Check with the sheriff's department. These were high profile cases and reported at the time in the Daily Sun. The perpetrators in some of these cases were arrested and are now serving time.

Several of the burglaries were at night and the invader walked into the bedroom of the sleeping residents.

I don't intent to research the exact dates for you, but they are available if you wish to check.

You could check this thread for some information about one of the situtations. There have been several. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...light=burglary or this one https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...light=burglary or this one https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...light=burglary or this one https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...light=burglary

I see no reason to be afraid here.

Or to carry a gun.

Most people who carry guns are not doing so because they are "afraid". Other people who may not carry a gun but take take security precautions such as locking their doors and putting up motion sensor lights are not "afraid".

People who take precautions are not afraid but more aware of potential situations than others.

Please don't assume that because you've been lucky in your life to not experience break-ins, theft, violence, or worse, that it does not exist. Evil is alive and kicking on this earth, and that includes The Villages and even West Chester, Ohio. You can check local Sheriff and Police statistics easily on the internet. If you do, you may be surprised to learn that TV has quite a bit of crime against property. Fortuately, here in TV crime against people is quite low.

Graciegirl, I pray that evil never befalls you. You seem to be a very sweet and loving person. I am sweet and loving, too. But, I am aware that everyone is not like you.

My neighbor who is from just outside New York city said much the same. It is easy to bring up statistics. We compared. You can too.

Thank you for your kind wishes. I have tried to work hard and place myself in places that are a little safer. This is one of them. No place is without unscrupulous people..ever or people who break laws... But I don't look to be hit by cross fire here anymore than I would in West Chester, Ohio. If you haven't been there, it is relatively safe.

People who carry guns are different than me. I may see the need someday. I don't now.

Some believe that if you carry you need to do it all the time. If you knew when you would need a handgun you would avoid the place or if that were not possible, take a cop with you.

People carry them all the time for the same reasons people carry spare tires. You never know when and where you will need it. I've picked up a nail in my tire driving on seemingly clean and safe roads. One of the reasons why Florida's concealed carry law was passed was due to the large senior citizen population being selected as easy targets. I can understand the concern of those who have moved here from safe towns and cities but some of us have seen what even "good" people can do to each other. Also try to attend one of those meetings with a local sheriff and you may learn that most of the crime in TV is caused by guests and other outsiders. At least consider the possibility of the risk in living in a community where many of the homes are rented out to strangers. Bad people take vacations too. :-) In the end, the sheep dogs will be around to protect the sheep. We all have to decide which of these we want to be.

Hopefully, you will never have a need to carry a weapon, Gracie.

One thing that does bother me is that there are some unscrupulous individuals that do take advantage of older adults, here as well as in other parts of our country. Sometimes I think more cash is taken by dishonest businesses or business practices than by break-ins.

We do feel much more safe here, too, Gracie.

Wasn't that a family situation? Ex boyfriend or something like that? Unless you have the gun on your person while you're watching the televison in your house it doesn't help much with a home invasion.

But if you feel the need - carry away! I don't and never will.

This issue will never be settled, or agreed upon, here on TOTV. As long as it's legal, personal preferences will prevail.

You are right as usual BobKat.

I will put the silencer on.

That is a very good question indeed.

Dear Vinny. Do NOT carry it at the pool. Someone might steal it or it might get wet and all rusty.

I am teasing you Vinny, please don't point that thing at me.

Boy Howdy. Me and my big mouth.

Read my post. Did I say that I carried a gun? I shoot as a hobby at gun ranges so a lot of my friends and family carry guns and they wanted to be legal and polite for those times when they visit me. Gracie, that 80 year old lady behind you at the checkout counter may very well be packing heat. I have had 8 women in TV tell me that they carry a gun in the 7 weeks I have been here There is a movement afoot to allow open carry which means you would be allowed to carry a gun in plain sight. Might go well with the theme for the new town square.

That's what our great country is all about!!

And, Vinny's statement says it all in a nutshell:

"In the end, the sheep dogs will be around to protect the sheep. We all have to decide which of these we want to be."

I'm certainly not a helpless lamb putting myself in harms way without thought to the consequences, or the consequences of those who are then called upon to protect me. I'm not quite the sheep dog yet, either. But I sure do love those who put themselves in harms way to protect us all.

:beer3: I don't think having guns in plain sight is a good idea as bad people may attempt to take it away from you. I prefer to keep the perps guessing as to who might be carrying.;)

Check the law regarding alcohol and you will find the distinction between a bar and a restaurant that serves alcohol. In a restaurant you can carry as long as you stay away from any defined "bar" area.
If I am wrong please refer me to the appropriate regulation that is current. Thanks.

I agree but the only benefit I see is eliminating the worrying about accidentally exposing your concealed weapon.
