Hmmm, fresh air from a toilet is quite unique...
Must be a new import :a20:

Buy a Panasonic WhisperFit Exhaust fan, which will suck out 110 cubic feet per minute, and a decent timer switch, and have them installed (I recommend Pike Electric). Put one in each bathroom. When it’s running and I’m in the bedroom, it’s hard to tell if it’s on. You aren’t required to have a vent for makeup air for an exhaust fan that small, and our homes here aren’t as super-tight as to make it necessary. When I relieve myself, I press the ten minute button. No air freshener necessary. When I take a shower, I press the two hour button. When it’s done, the towel and shower walls are dry.

Leaving windows open here introduces a huge amount of heat and humidity most of the year. Then your AC has to get rid of both. The humidity can lead to all sorts of problems, like mildew on clothes and shoes in closets. The electricity used by the exhaust fan is much less than what is used by the AC.

I’d sort of like to have the Solar Guys install Solar Tubes in my bathrooms (I had that done in my previous home in The Villages). But that’s expensive. My bathroom lights are on perhaps a half hour a day, and the cost is perhaps one or two cents a day, compared to maybe $800 for a Solar Tube installed.

I had a house in northern Virginia that had 5 bathrooms. Only one had a window and it could not be opened. Also, there are millions of condos, apartments, townhouses, and single family houses up north that have bathrooms without windows. Bathrooms with windows is definitely not a standard "up north" design feature.

Yep…don’t let the door hit you on the way out. This is the South. Open windows are an invitation for a layer of pollen throughout your house. Not to mention the humidity…

Agreed and almost impossible to add a window. While an exhaust fan works fresh air is nice

Some people have made the decision on their own - don’t know what it was but thanks for asking.

That’s why bathrooms have exhaust fans to remove the high humidity in the bathroom so mold doesn’t grow on your walls. You’re suppose to run the exhaust fan for 20 minutes after you take a shower. Opening a window here would do the opposite, allowing high humidity into the room since Florida always has high humidity outdoors.

My concern with my CYV master bath was more around getting some natural light in there, not venting. I installed a 14” solar tube near the shower and vanity. It’s fabulous - no need to turn lights on during the day.

I'm obviously not talking about opening up windows in high humidity season but when weather cools , I open all windows. Don't know why people hAve to be so nasty on this site. Alot of people love fresh air !! I'm wondering why we don't see skylights here that open like up north?? Solar tube's yes we see but I love skylights? Any not sarcastic comments please?

Just use a good plug in air freshener and turn on the exhaust fan if it get too bad.

Your presumption that this is a North vs South issue is totally bogus.

Also, I don't know of any rule that says you cannot install a skylight that will open to allow outside air in.

Don’t have a courtyard villa, so not sure of the size of your bathroom, but we had a very small ceiling fan installed in our master bathroom. It helps greatly with air circulation, dries out the shower and helps keep the air fresher in there!
I hope you find a solution that works for you.

I haven’t read the whole thread but I like a window in the bathroom. I read some posts that say that neighbors in kissing lanais or closely situated CYV can smell someone else’s ‘Baby Ruth’ movements from a fresh air opened window vs a strategically placed vent? The level of comfortability SOME people have with outrageous takes on this forum is alarming. Entertaining...but alarming!

All homes are built to standards, I don't know if they are local or State. I agree people seem to enjoy picking on people on this Forum. (And that's how the fight started.) ;) Please don't be hurt. I just returned and am already getting some of that.......be tough and overlook a lot. That is what I am trying to do.

We have three baths and one without a window. All have exhaust fans. I leave the light over the tub on at night in the one without a window, just so we won't fall in the toilet. ;)
