I have a passport (blue thing issued by the State Department) that is required when crossing an international border. I have never been stopped on the street and asked for my passport. I have never been asked for my passport when entering a business in the US. Vaccine passports are being proposed for just those purposes - stopping me on the street to verify that I can walk without a mask and stopping me at the doorway of a business to verify that I can enter. The act of stopping me and asking for the vaccine passport is the search (or demand for my papers) that I object to.

If/when I am on a cruise and the foreign country I am about to enter requires a passport or a vaccine passport or the completion of a form then I will decide if I want to enter that country. I have visited countries that demand those things of people walking down the street and I was glad I was able to leave. I have seen what it is like - I don't want my country to take even one small step down that path.

I have traveled internationally for 40 years for work. I have a vaccine passport that is required when entering a lot of countries. It's been like that for many, many years.

Covid is no different. Prove you've had the vaccine or you don't enter. Simple

This isn't rocket science. It's public health.

Amen to this and good post.

Does the letter state that the cruise ships will be allowing 5% non vaccinated passengers? Someone did mention the staff can have 2% non vaccinated also. So who keeps track of those numbers if it’s true. I don’t care, a cruise is nowhere on my horizon, but there are many who are frequent cruisers. Would it freak you out that 5% of passengers, and 2% staff will not be vaccinated?

There really is no difference at all, IMHO.

Take a look at this list of countries that REQUIRE certain vaccinations to enter their country.........

.

I think the issue is... is it fair to require an experimental unapproved vaccine?

My card doesn’t prove squat. No one signed it and no official seal or stamp. Easy to forge.

Is this really true? In three states where I’ve lived and voted, I have never NOT been asked for ID. Often voter registration card too.

There is no such thing as a "vaccine passport" as far as I know. I have traveled and lived most of my life overseas and never required one. Yes, some countries supposedly require you to have certain vaccinations in order to obtain certain visas, but I have never been asked by passport control for a "vaccine passport."
There was a time during the era of smallpox where such a passport was required, but once it was eradicated, the passport went away.

I think this whole thread is tending to argue apples and oranges. The concept of a "vaccine passport" and that of "mandatory vaccination" are 2 different things.

There are no "vaccine passports" at the moments, that debate is over whether or not to create such a thing and then require it for certain activities.
If the activity that would require it was let's say travel to Outer Mongolia, because the Mongolians want it, then fine. You'll need a passport, probably a visa and perhaps proof of other vaccinations as well. However, if the activity is going into a store, or a concert, or a ballgame, then I would tend to agree with those that view it as unconstitutional search and seizure. That would be too reminiscent of Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia.

As far as "mandatory vaccination" goes, I don't think we'll get there, there would have to be too many exceptions

So far, the vaccines seem to be working so well, I'm not sure the vaccinated have much to worry about?

Yes, it is fair. Anyone who does not feel safe to have this "unapproved experimental" vaccine can opt not to have the vaccine. The fact that those folks will not be able to board a cruise ship is the consequence of making the decision not to be vaxxed.

Life isn't fair sometimes. We all have to live with that mantra. Don't we?

That is a very valid question. I have lived in NY, NJ and Florida and have always had to show ID in order to vote. Are there really states that do not require ID to vote? I had no idea if that is the case. That sounds so fishy to me that anyone can vote and not have to prove they are a US Citizen. I've never had to show my voter's registration card though.
