So you are not the cat owner that was written up in the online newspaper?

golfing eagles 10-04-2015 03:29 PM

Let me be the first, and I believe quite few should follow, to:
1) express sympathy for your loss
2) apologize for being skeptical of your story

If you re-read your post, coupled with the post from January, you might see why some doubted you. It's not an excuse, just an explanation, and again I'm sorry. It makes much more sense now that you were clear about 2 cats, and that there was evidence that the cat door/latch was the contributing factor to the 1st cat's disappearance, so you felt safe to let the 2nd cat out there with the door secure. Regarding the 2010 post describing your cat training, you must be amazing with animals. Perhaps a new animal planet network series, "the cat whisperer" is in your future.
Once again , sorry for your loss

For those who have speculated that I am not a serious person, having lost BOTH of my cats from the lanai this year: My name is Suuzen Ty Anderson; I go by Suzy. I am a California attorney with an active law license, rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell attorneys, lawyers and law firms listed in Martindale's Attorney Directory. My husband is Raymond Edwards, Jr., a retired judge for the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego. We live on Bramble Terrace in the Village of Bonita, on the Kenya golf course.

CFrance 10-04-2015 03:37 PM

Thank you for clarifying. I think that's all people were looking for, was a response.

They are beautiful cats. My Siamese cats were escape artists, which is why I wondered if your second cat had broken through the screen to get outside. Did you hear anything?

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you will find, in time, room for more feline friends in your life.

I think there have been enough incidents of pets being taken by some animal that we should all be forewarned.

gerryann 10-04-2015 03:38 PM

Thanks for clearing up the mystery.

Just one week earlier, I took Timmer to the vet for his annual shots and teeth cleaning, and the vet tech clipped his claws very short. He could never have torn a big hole in our lanai screen, nor would he - he had been sitting out every day and night for the entire six years we have been here. We live on Bramble Terrace in the Village of Bonita, on the Kenya golf course, and our neighbors had met both cats many times. I would never have let Timmer go out on the lanai had I not believed he was safe with the screen door tightly latched and all screens completely intact. Here, again, is a photo of Teo and Timmer before Teo disappeared in January: http://www.lawmarkets.com/images/2-siamese-cats.jpg

Beautiful cats - I am very sorry for your loss.
We back on Churchill Greens and I have seen one coyote in five years. However he was very shy and afraid of people.
Have you seen coyotes on the Kenya Golf course after dark or during the day?
We obviously all need to be careful about these predators who seem to be growing bolder.

su2009 10-04-2015 03:39 PM

The lady in Lynnhaven who just lost her cat by a large animal who tore through her lanai is a different person, a Mrs. Barbara Gibson; I just read her account this morning when a friend emailed the article to me and I have not yet met her. http://www.**************.com/villag...ge-of-ashland/

You have my respect for your bravery in sharing the most pain one feels outside of losing a family member. No one doubts your loss, but there have been so many coyote attacks lately, some folks jumped to the conclusion and posted doubt. I have experienced the coyote on my property so it is easy for me to accept the threads as fact. Let's hope that the doubters dont have to feel your lose or your pain.

You don't have to identify yourself. I think what put people off was the posting of a very strong story and then disappearing from the thread, not answering questions. That has happened before on the forum, and it tends to make people suspicious. I now remember the story of your screen not being latched, and perhaps if you had supplied that information earlier on it would have helped people believe in your credibility.

Again, sorry about your cats.

Hi C France.

You have great understanding of how these web sites operate or in some cases fail to represent fact. Unfortunately, some feel their way of posting should represent every poster. Some have so many posts they have became numb to the reality of the new poster and often doubt their truthfulness. I believe we should always believe others posts and intentions rather than doubting their honesty and insulting their credibility. This TOTV site is for everyone, not just the old timers.

Thank you for your kind words. My experience with seeing coyotes on this golf course twice - once before I lost Teo, and once after - should have forewarned me of trouble to come, and I regret terribly that I did not perceive the danger.

I saw three coyotes, one large and two slightly smaller, walk down the golf course, about forty feet in from the boundary of the course, at about 8 p.m. on November 14, 2014, two months before I lost Teo. Unfortunately, I did not realize those coyotes might be a threat to a cat on a screened-in room, and after Teo disappeared January, I felt it was due to my fault in not checking to make sure the screen door had been tightly latched before I went to bed.

On August 3, 2015, about 1 p.m., my neighbor two houses up called to let me know that a coyote was making its way down the back yards of the houses on the golf course side of Bramble Terrace. As we spoke, the coyote arrived in our back yard. From the body shape, it looked like it might be a young female, as it was slender and not very heavily muscled. This coyote came up onto our patio in the daylight, stared briefly into our lanai, then moved off and sniffed carefully through the bushes in the back and next to the side of our house before moving down to the bushes in back of the house next door. It was drizzling, but coyotes have a very oily coat and she did not look even slightly wet – her ears were up and her bushy tail was full and not bedraggled at all. I called for my husband and he walked over and stared out the window at her, but she either did not see him or did not care. After a few minutes, she then left and went further down the golf course. Then she went between the sides of two houses, and I lost sight of her.

While standing on our patio, that coyote did not paw at the screen or latch or make any other effort to get into our lanai, and again, even though I had already lost Teo by then, I failed to perceive that there might be a danger to a cat on the lanai if the door was latched and all screens intact. That's the reason I wanted to let other pet owners know what just happened. It's too late for me, but at least others might have a better chance of keeping their beloved pets safe. If I'd read about animals tearing big holes in lanais to get at cats, I never would have let either cat go on the lanai without me.

I wish I had made it more clear in my posts that I was trying to come to the OP's defense. I should not have been subtle. This thread went beyond cringeworthy as more and more insult was heaped upon a terrible injury.

OP, I am sorry this happened to you. All of it.

It was responsible and thoughtful of you to warn others to be more aware.

I do not know what makes some posters sometimes seem so eager to pounce. TOTV used to be a nicer place. (sigh)

I don't think you can fault yourself for not making a connection between seeing a coyote in November, and a potential danger to kitty on a screened in lanai in January. As an attorney, you would object "Assumes facts not in evidence"
We have/had a 16 year old black cat that has never left our yard all her life (about an acre of property) She loved being outside except when there was 5 feet of snow on the ground. She disappeared about 10 days ago, no idea of how or where. I searched the entire property and house, even the gutter of the road in case she was hit by a motorist with no sense of morality, but nothing. She has identification on her collar, but with Halloween approaching, you never know if someone wanted a black cat. I saw a red fox in our backyard about 6 months ago, but I never would have kept her inside just because I saw one, I think the situation is similar to yours. I'd like to keep hoping she'll come back, but that hope is fading. So you see I am sincerely in my sorrow for your loss

Hopefully we can learn from this and stop with comments like I'm skeptical. Hold your personal thoughts if they may be false and hurt someone. I have had threads that were misunderstood and the hurtful comments cuts pretty deep.
Once again sorry for your loved ones being taken so prematurely. I have had to put down pets at the end of their quality of life and it still hurts like hell itself.

I have seen a coyote on the Belmont Golf Course. Golf The Villages This was a few years ago at about 7:45 AM while I was walking my former dog Sport near the Lynnhaven Postal Center. The coyote ran 20 feet in front of us in a big hurry to get away from all the people on the golf course. It did surprise a lot of golfers on Belmont.

The rumors though are that it could have been a coyote or a bobcat that snatched these now three Lynnhaven cats. Three different houses have been identified to me. I do not know how accurate this information is. The only first hand account is by the Saluda Street couple in the news source which must not be named. Their cat was taken on Friday night, October 2-3, 2015.

We live in Lynnhaven and saw a coyote on Thursday night (10/1/2015) on our way home from the Square about 915pm. He ran 20 feet in front of our car. At first we thought it was a skinny dog, but then we realized it was a coyote...

Jimturner 10-04-2015 05:46 PM

I live in duval and am confronted by a coyote once or twice a week in my front yard. I don't feel threatened but if my cats were in the yard, it would be fur and blood for sure. These flea infested scavengers will kill and eat anything they can overpower like cats and children.

And I retain the right to voice skepticism whenever I feel it, whether it's further proven wrong or not. If I'm proven wrong, I'll back off. But this is a forum. People are allowed to voice their opinions, as long as they are not direct attacks. Moderators will determine and remove direct attacks.

Acme had S&H. My mom did not drive and she would walk to the store, push the cart home and take it back to the store. That sounds funny now. I wonder why she didn't get a little pull cart. Maybe old city people used those and she was too modern. I remember how standing on the pad and watching the door open was about as futuristic as Secaucus, NJ could get.

Back in the day, the popular loyalty stamps were S&H Green Stamps, Top Value Stamps, Gold Bond Stamps & Plaid Stamps. There were others but not as well known and usually more limited in areas they were available.
Of course, along with those, were we getting all those goodies in the soap boxes, glasses, dish towels, etc.
I still have my entire set for 12 dishes I collected each week at A&P.
My last Green Stamp purchase was a griddle, one side flat and flip it over for waffles.

Oh yea, to stay on subject, I did not see a coyote yesterday.
