MSN

Hope the link works, if not do a Google search, the Florida taxpayers could be on the hook for $2 BILLION if this goes through.

I hope this does not go completely political.....

The failure of that position is that it doesn't consider the ludicrous amount of taxes that will pour into the area rather than being held 'captive' . Unfortunately MSN tends to only look at one side of the story and never look at the entire picture. Much like half this country.

Plus the number of $2B has been changing which shows it's over baked.

Some people think they are too big to be rained in. Freedom of speech remains for them, and A governor passing a law in retribution for something someone says, is about as anti-American as you can get.

Your being used

This is all a political game to raise his profile.
All you have to do is look at the don't say gay bill.
The bill could have said that there would no reference to sex at all between pre-school and third grade, with whatever penalty they saw fit, but it would have been a mere blip in the news.
It was specifically worded the way it was to stir up controversy, the same with the math books and now Disney.
Both sides use this tactic everyone is being used by these politicians to climb the latter.
Though over Governor is bring this to a new level.

This seems to be a political post.

Sadly, THEY apparently do not have a right to say what they believe. There is NO doubt why this action is being taken, it is a government action to retaliate against a speech that the government disagrees with - isn't that covered someplace in the constitution? Isn't free speech something we hear all the time on this forum. Or is freedom of speech only free when one agrees with the person being censored?

I hope some will look beyond the reason this action is being taken and see it is a direct attack on democracy in our country and a direct violation of the constitution.

Let's hope the courts agree with you.

There is no state income tax in Florida.

Tax Disney to make up any short fall.
Glad to see Disney being held accountable for their ungodly position!

Will The Villages Development Districts Survive?

The government of The Villages is based closely on that of the way the Disney developments are financed and governed. The exception I believe is that Disney issues the bond financing to fund their developments, but retains the obligation to repay those bonds. The result is that Disney retains the authority to “govern” the areas using that form of financing.

In the case of The Villages, the obligation to service and repay the bonds used to fund infrastructure development is transferred to home buyers when they close on the purchase of their homes. Governance of The Villages is then transferred to homeowners over a ten-year period, after which the homeowners have the authority and responsibility to elect representatives to self-govern, including funding all governmental services with real estate taxes.

The question I have is whether the legislation passed yesterday will prevent the issuance of the bonds by The Villages in the first place? That is, will the Developer be required to fund the infrastructure and recreational facilities and then try to repay themselves thru much higher sales prices of new homes?

I haven’t read any analysis of the new Florida law, but it seems to me that it will change the fundamental formula which has permitted over thirty years of successful development of The Villages and rapidly speed the responsibility for providing and all the services normally provided by governmental agencies. The question that follows of course is whether real estate taxes will have to immediately put in place to provide and fund the governance of The Villages which had been provided by the Developer over the initial ten-year period following completion of various phases of the development?

I sure don’t have those answers, max out site seems to follow that the cost of infrastructure development will have to be’ baked in’ to the selling prices of new homes with the residents immediately assuming the responsibility of forming, organizing and paying for all the units of government required.

Somehow, I think, the new law also has to effect residents of The Villages by removing the decision-making currently being provided by The Villages Developer.

An old saying seems to apply… If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

It's election year. This doesn't go into effect until summer 2023. You know, after the midterms and the Gov's re-election bid. My odds say that it will be repealed after he's elected again. Just another political move.

This is America. Everyone should have to abide by the same rules. Plus these people are now trying to ruin the kids.

Disney let a handful of people pressure them to go woke and their tanking stock reflects Americas response.

Anyone who wants to cry about moral ground let's not forget when Obama's IRS went after conservative business owners.

Politics have become down right dirty but if you stand by idle you will be walked all over in today's environment.

It's nice to have somebody willing to fight back against people who try to extort and bully their way into what they want.

I guess anyone who doesn't give $ to a politician, is "Extorting the Government"! Seriously! Get you hate out here folks!
