I bought one of these about ten years ago at Walmart because they were on sale for $8 and it seemed like a good thing to have. I hadn't turned it on for a few years and last night I got it out and it worked perfect. Uses 4 D batteries instead of one of those large square lantern batteries. It's nice because you don't always want a flashlight in your hands. Just set it on the counter and then you have your hands free to use the telephone, a radio, whatever and it illuminates the whole room. I see them in the camping department all the time, I think I'll pick up another, Walmart website lists them now for $12.35.

Thank you for this info. I lit a candle in a glass jar. Leaving it sitting there when I'm not in the room worries me. This is a much better idea.

HeroBeam® LED Lantern 2016 COB Technology emits 300 LUMENS Review - YouTube

You bought a couple of these for power outages. Hero Beam.

I have this one. Bought it just for emergencies. It produces great light when you need it. Uses 4 "D" cell batteries. I bought it on Amazon in 2014. Sometimes when batteries are left in something for a long time they leak so I suggest every few months, open the lamp and look at the batteries. I also have a battery tester because you can't tell how good a battery is by just looking at it.

We've lived here 9 years and never remember losing power before. Must be certain areas.

This appeared to be a huge area well including areas well outside The Villages.

I am always thinking....is this a terror related thing? It wasn't. I am glad. Hackers can get control of a lot of systems that affect us these days. I am a worrier.

Lantern = great gift idea

Thank you for the lantern recommendations. I don't lose power very often at home, but I want to get one of these. This also gives me a gift idea for my dad for Christmas (he is very hard to buy for).
