The answer to your question is a big fat NO!

There is no rational reason to have gates and guards period.
Of course, there are those who will give you reasons, many of which are lame.
The streets are public which means that anyone can come and go and cannot be stopped.

We still have break-ins and burglaries.

It costs us over a million dollrs a year to have guards there, pay for repairs, utilities, etc.

The gates have little to do with security and everything to do with safety. They are simply a choice for traffic control and no different than a stop sign meaning one must stop or a traffic light when red meaning one must stop or a speed limit sign meaning that is the MAXIMUM speed allowed or a yield sign meaning one must yield or a crosswalk meaning a pedistrian can expect traffic to stop so they may cross a street safely or a flashing yellow light meaning to use caution or a speed limit of 20 MPH before a roundabout to slow traffic to safely negotiate the roundabout.
Maybe several large speed bumps would be a better choice to slow things down!

Security, license plates are photographed at exit gates. A car may enter TV and drive around for a while but in most cases exit quickly if they are involved in a burglary.

:clap2:yup, we need those gates, the way people drive around here. They do slow the cars down. Makes people unhappy sometimes, but it's a good reminder that it's a residential area.

I think those gates are to slow people down so that golf carts can cross to go south on Morse.

The official purpose of exit gates is to prevent suspicious looking people from entering TV by means of by-passing the actual entrance gate lanes.

The gates are part of the communist conspiracy to overthrow our great nation.

How many burglaries have been solved using this security method in the last 6 months? Zero?

Am I wrong, but isn't it true that in most cases there are no golf cart crossings on the outside of exit gates??

Ooper 03-27-2014 09:16 AM

I thought the gates were there to provide amusement on the district government website by watching folks going through them to see how many times they could be run into.

Most cases you are correct but there are some... Santiago gate and the Polo Ridge gate near the polo fields are just 2 that come to mind where the crossing is outside the gate.

Maybe there's something wrong with me but I don't mind the gates. They slow traffic and allow carts to cross the streets. What is wrong with slowing down a few seconds? I have never thought of them as an inconvenience. Traffic lights are unsightly and stop signs are viewed as a suggestion.

In comparison, a stop sign would do the same thing,
and costs a lot less than a million dollars per year.

I do think that drivers here could be a little more courteous.

Are you serious???
"Suspicious looking people?"
What do you mean . . . Someone in a tie and jacket?

The Villages is like any other place in the country.
We are a series of neighborhoods. Why is everyone so paranoid?
We really are no different than other towns or cities.

We are like Main Street, USA and have far fewer police issues than any other town or city.
