Many of the gates say "residents only,"
and I haven't figured out why they did that.

What it does do is confuse our guests,
leaving them to wonder what the hell to do and
where to go if they haven't been given directions in advance.

Truly one the epitomies of lousy planning!!

Is anything right?

There are "Residents Only" signs all over TV. The technical term for them is "Unenforceable."

You can put a "No Solicitors" sign on your front door. It can't keep people from ringing your doorbell.

:icon_wink:

Carl -- you are correct on all counts.
But what's a stranger who is a guest to do when they encounter one of our "unenforceable" gates?
Break through the gate anyway?
It's a dilemma! In addition, it's an embarrassment.

I advise avoiding "embarrassment" by informing your guests that all they have to do is push the little button. This works at all gates.

Somewhere along the line someone has fed you bad information.

Exit gates aren't close to the main arteries you mentioned
and could not possibily control the traffic.
441/27 is nowhere near the Villages to matter.

You're right..Zero. Why? Because it is not a security method nor intended as one.

The Villages logo bridge spans 441/27 so it is most definitely "near" The Villages. Can't get much closer.

The gates entering Orange Blossom Hills are right off 441/27 and within just a few car lengths off the 6-lane divided highway. There are also gates off 466 within a few cars lengths. Just thought you should know.

Sorry, but stop signs would NOT do the same thing. When the arms are broken off the gates (as they often are), stop signs and cones are put out. They are blatantly ignored by many. Heck, they don't even bother to slow down much of the time, much less stop. Might be cheaper, but by no means effective.

You are right in the drivers here could be more courteous...as could diners, shoppers, etc. Just sayin':duck:

:evil6: I think you may be on to something! Broken gates are quite common in our Village, both entry and exit.

Bridgeport @ Lake Sumter also has a cart crossing outside of the gates!
