Do you really believe that the cost of electricity will not go up with demand? What about the cost to replace those batteries in a few years? Gas today in Wildwood is $2.89 for those that care about the cost. Thankfully I won't be around long enough for EV's to be mandatory as I would never own or lease one.

Tesla seems to figure 4mi/kWh. At $0.13/kWh that works out to be about $0.03/mile.

At 30 miles/gal and $3/gal a gas car costs about $0.10/mile.

The cost of electricity would need to triple, with no increase in cost of gas, to make things equal.

Batteries are warranted for 10+ years so it is unlikely they would ever need to be replaced.

There are reasons that an EV doesn't meet my needs but they do not include cost of charging and cost of battery replacement.

Smart actually. It is called dollar cost averaging. Those folks are probably good investors too!

The State motor fuel taxes do make a huge difference in the price of gas. That said, the weather makes a difference on the highway conditions with the freezing and thawing conditions and trying to maintain the highways in northern states. Thus the state taxes are much higher driving up the price of gas. Another factor are labor costs to maintain the highways. These factors make the price of gas cheaper in southern states of the U.S.
