Oh boy. How do you feel when you want to go 20 MPH and someone ahead is going 14 MPH? Do not feel the rush then?

Load the Villages GPS on your phone. It gives you your speed as well as a map of the area you are in. Not sure of how to get there, this app will help you.

There are times when I want to pass someone but can't because my cart is limited to 20 mph. The driver in front of me is slowing down a few mph every few seconds to look around or doesn't keep the pedal pegged. If I have a long stretch of path to safely pass I don't bother because the other driver may decide to peg his cart while I'm passing and I won't be able to complete the pass. I've only had this happen once and that was enough to just sit behind everyone after that. I'm not in a hurry but it's nice to just put the pedal to the floor and think about other things. Changing the rear differential gears would give me the speed I need to pass someone safety if the desire arises again. The downside is not being able to just put the pedal on the floor and just go with the flow at 20.

Does anyone know a guy that can swap out the gears in a 2020 Yamaha? Or the cost of doing it? Asking for a friend.

You can download a speedometer app to your phone. They work great.

Slow down & enjoy the journey

I could not agree more. I used to juice up my cart but one day decided "what's the rush!" I now have my cart floored all the time and cruse along at 20 (on the flats). Reminds me of my old VW Bus days.

We live in a beautiful place... It would be wise, safe and good to slow down and simply enjoy the journey!

Absolutely my favorite way to travel, number 2 of two reasons I moved here. I am happy with my little lot in life.

Is that your only complaint in life? Then you have a great life

I'd love to see the cops show up some day and radar these unregistered motor vehicles (carts that can exceed 20mph). They would certainly rake in some dough handing out $250 tickets, and the courts will add to it to the tune of around $500. My cart cannot go faster than the legal speed limit of 20mph, but I get passed all the time by some Yamaha that will do 23mph. There is a reason for the 20mph limit - the brakes, suspension etc of a golf cart is not designed to be safe at speeds faster than this.

They do use radar on carts at various locations and do give out tickets. They have done it several times at our post office location.

WAZE has a speedometer function on the main screen.

If the police catch you going over 20 miles an hour in your golf cart, it is a felony in Florida.

glsatterlee 01-15-2021 08:23 AM

It is a large fine also 100 or $200.

The right approach. From the postings you would think hundreds of golf cart drivers are zooming along at 25 MPH or higher on golf cart paths. That isn’t reality. There are always those that are inconsiderate and they’re the ones not getting ticked off

If you’re on the street in the golf cart lane, not on a golf cart path

While we are discussing multi modal paths, thank you to all the cart drivers who wait patiently to pass me, when I am on my bike. I ride on the far right side of the path, and it is a bit terrifying when a driver rushes by right next to me.

Just download a speedometer app for your smartphone. The GPS measured speed will be dead on.
