As Bogie aptly pointed out this topic is as common as the ones on dog poop.
The gates and their attendant serve the community well. The public roads and the virtual size of this community make it impractical to have a bona fide gated community. However the gates still help control traffic and the elaborate camera system assists an added security measure.
i often utilize the Morse gate and it would just be maddening without the gates.
In Minneapolis they use metered lanes and they serve well in merging traffic onto the interstate system;otherwise there would be backups from those drivers that believe they are always entitled to go first.

I have a possible solution.
Make the gate out of a very light Downspout, 10 ft., 2x3 In. Cut the Downspout at about 2 feet and attach a 6" strap hinge to the 3" side so that it can can open and close horizontally.
Velcro will keep it closed. I would fill the Downspout with Spray Foam Insulation. It should still weigh in at under 2 pounds.
The gate goes up and down so nothing needs to be changed from what we have now.
The big difference is that if you go through the gate before it opens, at impact, without breaking anything the gate will swing forward.
[The only other change is to set up the gate motor to turn off after impact and turn on again after the gate is put back in place. I can do that with a magnet or mercury switch]
