Just pay attention to YOUR driving...as you do in your car...and move on....just as you do in your car. This is a dead subject.

The law says you cannot do that. Must move to the right when ANY vehicle is traveling faster than you.
Driving like that triggers road rage. Unnecessarily delays traffic. It is not your role as a driver to pretend to be a cop and hold up other traffic. No matter if you think they are speeding or not. Perhaps your speedometer is wrong? Perhaps there is an undercover cop needing to get past. You don't know.
So move over.

Do that on a MMP in a golf cart----there's no law against it, although you will get a few one-fingered salutes.
Do that on a highway, and...... Florida statute 316.081:

(3) On a road, street, or highway having two or more lanes allowing movement in the same direction, a driver may not continue to operate a motor vehicle in the furthermost left-hand lane if the driver knows or reasonably should know that he or she is being overtaken in that lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed. This subsection does not apply to drivers operating a vehicle that is overtaking another vehicle proceeding in the same direction, or is preparing for a left turn at an intersection.

I had a guy start to pass me on a curve then finished passing me at a stop sign pulling into the oncoming lane to pass. He then zoomed away. Don’t know how fast he was going but I have been passed by other carts that were probably going 25 and this guy was going way faster than that.

19 mph is slow by TV standards. Most carts can go 22 mph. They can be adjusted to go 24mph. At 19 mph I’m surpirsed you don’t get passed more often; like every time you use your cart.

Just what we need in TV. Children driving adult toys, with the reflexes and observation skills of a senior citizen.

When I was 12 years old I drove a Go-Cart 60mph (which felt like 100 :-)
On that day I swore to my creator that I would own one someday.
Well, life got in the way. Until now.
What's your story?

I a completing a rebuild of my cart. I have installed a 350HP Hemi engine. If my calculations are correct this thing should easily do 240mph. I will be passing everybody and after arriving at my destination I will do burnouts and victory donuts like a NASCAR winner while waving a checkered flag. I wait patiently for The Villages to build the oval track for Sunday fun.

If you install the right kind of roof and secure it, you might be able to FLY over other traffic:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

What I don't understand is why the Police don't control this unsafe practice. Maybe they have been told Not to enforce the golf cart speed limits. A speeding golf cart is, in some ways, MORE dangerous than a speeding car. A car has a LOWER center of gravity than a gasoline golf cart. Electric carts have a lower center of gravity. Golf carts have bad brakes and the gas ones can turn over easily (especially those with altered speed controls that go over 25 MPH.) I think that senior cart drivers of speed altered carts are re-living their teen and 20 year old days, when they owned HOT RODS. maybe a FAST golf cart makes them think that they are young again. Whatever the psychology, WE are PAYING for law enforcement to provide safe streets to walk and ride on!!!!!!

This is useful.

My golf cart has the governor on so it cannot go more than 19 MPH.

Almost every other golf cart passes us.

Yes, that is the problem that the Police should be able to solve !

I’m sure many of us have jammed on the brakes to avoid hitting another cart or a car that didn’t see us and had the realization that we were riding in nothing but plastic if we actually collided. So I don’t appreciate the people who think it’s OK to drive faster than The Villages rules which match the equipment and path construction. that can cause harm to others if they have.

A friend of mine had her cart tipped over when a passer cut too close to her rear end and will be in rehab for months how can we say that that’s an OK thing. The driver didn’t even stop when others were rushing to aid.

I guess that the "US's friendliest City" sign will HAVE to be taken DOWN !!!!!

I don't mind the salutes when I'm in my golf cart. Having said that, I absolutely agree with you with regards to driving a vehicle on a roadway.

I have an electric cart. Why do electric carts have a lower center of gravity than gas carts? Is the weight of the batteries heavier than the filled gas tank?

I've not seen the analysis but electric carts likely have a *higher* center of gravity. In my carts the battery is lighter than the gasoline engine, sits higher than the bulk of the gasoline engine, and has a lighter gear case than the gasoline engine.

An EV automobile with 300 miles worth of batteries at or below the axle would have a different calculation.

I always thought it was just a natural extension of the ATV and snowmobile drivers who live here now and can go for a cruise stopping at bars for "one or two" before they move onto the next stop.

All my childhood dreams were realized as a child.

Now I have most realized grown up dreams, which don't include running over some senior, walking along a MMP.

The day that sheriff department decides to control the roads within TV will be a first since we first came in 2007. Farmer in an interview stating “we don’t bother with speeding cars. Our officers are only looking for the impaired”

Now that there is a new sheriff in town , hopefully control of the streets in Sumter may be on the list. After living between the 6’s over 15 years, don’t have high hope for cars much less carts. I do have difficulty believing there are many carts who exceed 22. At 21mph we rarely get passed, and need to be down hill to pass another cart.

I will say living south of 44 our Police Presence is very strong. Maybe you should consider moving south where traffic stops and tickets are an everyday occurrence. I strongly believe we get our monies worth. After my 3-4am run most mornings greeted by a Wildwood Officer, sometimes I offer a double espresso just as a thank you.

It’s nice to be on first name basis with law enforcement. Jim when was the last time you got a wave, smile or a whoop whoop from your sheriffs

You Win the Grand Prize of Life Tou-ch'e
Because of my documented arrested development. I ride a 900lb motorcycle everyday from Palmer to Mulberry.
That's 8 roundabouts and 8 excellent chances for some Blue Hair sweeping into me while peering thru the hinge of their Oldsmobile steering wheel hinge.
I love riding and it could injure or kill me any day but I want to live and not necessarily live long.

Handheld or mounted on tripod is not really suitable for use while driving a golf cart but I didn't expect to find any at all. Don't know why it didn't occur to me to look on amazon.

Lots of money to be made by stopping carts that have their governors altered to go over 20mph (aka - unregistered motor vehicles). Stiff fine and a required court appearance.

But put a one piece windshield on it and pay the registration fee/tax and you’re ok to go 25. Safety? My arse, it’s just a fundraiser

I know, right? What's the point since you still can't go as fast as the cars. It surprises me when I see a registered golf cart on the MMP's. What was the point in spending all that money and drive on the MMP's instead of the roads?
