I love golf and play only champ courses. I cancelled out this morning and will not play anymore till this thing shows improvement. If we have four or five more cases in TV I look for all the pro shops to close down. I would not work in one and be exposed to people all day long. You don't know if the person just got off a cruise or just returned from NY. You don't know if their grandkids are visiting and they flew down or drove down from a hot spot. Golf is not essential, life is.

Some of the clubhouses have ID card scanners and credit card readers. The staff touches NOTHING. The people in line can stay 6 feet back. There is no need to close it down at this time

And whether or not any of them were exposed to and perhaps infected by the virus.

And as long as we stay 6 feet apart, don't touch each or their equipment, have someone sneeze or cough on you there is no problem.

They’re not quite all on the same page yet. Yesterday at Glenview they had the scanner for your ID but not the chip reader for your credit card. Today at Bonifay was the same thing but they wiped your card off. They also had the floor marked with tape to show you where to stand.

ben rays 03-23-2020 08:13 PM

yeah, but you go to Publix every day and you are not 6 feet from the cashier...………..If everyone would just wash their hands , calm down, and try to do their best to keep everyone safe, this will be over soon!

Friend of mine is an ambassador he said he received no notice of that change

This is about not raking and not pulling the pin. I asked the starter at Belle Glade, the Ambassador on Belle Glade and the Ambassador at Turtle Mound. They all said "it is up to you" when it comes to raking a trap or pulling the pin. They said to err on the side of safety. If you're in a trap and you decide to hit out of it, you can use your shoes and club to smooth the sand.

We raised the cups about 2 inches so the ball won't go in the cup. You hit the cup, it's considered holed. We have no rakes in traps so there is no need to touch a flag or a rake now.

Part of my info came from Stumpy Lake.

mdticket 03-24-2020 11:03 AM

No cash should be used!

Dilligas 03-24-2020 11:26 AM

First of all, you can make your own adjustments. If you go to Golfdigest, the USGA has recommended....Here'''s one big way the USGA is relaxing the Rules of Golf to cope with the coronavirus - Golf Digest ..... many have made adjustments...smooth sand with foot, don't touch flag pole, remove ball with suction cup or picker, gimmie within 12"-18", one person per cart, maintain social distancing of 6 feet.

Gerald 03-24-2020 11:40 AM

It should be up to each person to play or not play golf. That being said, The course should be setup for two person play. So that you can play with a wife or person who you feel safe with.
I run a large golf group and because the courses don't allow for two to play. I cancelled my group from playing. If the people in the group wanted to play they still can. I just did not want to feel responsible if someone got sick in my group.

Marvic 1 03-24-2020 04:21 PM

The Villages need to STOP those with Visitors Pass from playing golf at our golf courses or any other activities still being offered during these trouble times...

:welcome: This sign should read: Not Welcome!

rustyp 03-24-2020 04:26 PM

Per the governor all people 65 and older are to be quarantined to the house for the next 14 days. You can go for groceries and walk the dog observing social distance rules. Orange County just instituted same except pertains to all ages. Obviously this means no golf if you are over 65.

The Governor advised, not ordered those 65 and over to stay home. Golfing is still a go for 65 and over....

Regor 03-24-2020 05:06 PM

I happened to go by Winn Dixie this morning about 1 hour before opening and there were people lining up to buy what? Probably nothing they really need. I'm sure some went home and complained about the golfers. NOBODY seemed to give a crap about 30 thousand people in this country dying from the flu this year!

That why you don’t get close to them. No reason when playing golf to be close to other’s in other carts.

Bjeanj 03-24-2020 05:26 PM

Not the way we play! ;-)

rustyp 03-24-2020 05:48 PM

Before this gets out of hand please explain to me !. Why you would not follow the Governor/ Dept of Health advice ? 2. Jeopardize my life with a compromised immune system. I still need go to the store for supplies that you touched but weren't willing to limit your contacts with others ? Is this the biggest sacrifice you ever had to make in your life ? 3. For those claiming this is advice not a dictate I don't agree . You have selfish motives. If your saying you won't go to jail for violating the order - I agree. That will spread the virus all the more. There are citizens in small towns as we speak in very low infected rate areas shaming snowbirds not to come back to their summer homes. Maybe we could use a little more shame here if common sense can't prevail.

I agree with the Governor that we should quarantine ourselves at least 15 days from any outside extra activities if age is 65 or higher.
But when someone come on here to this website and misinform the public by twisting the Governors words around in order to please his or her desire is wrong and is publishing FAKE NEWS!

OK I strongly agree with you I did not use the word ADVISE. Instead I said "are to be". I did not intend to twist words for a hidden agenda. Sorry if it came across that way. As for FAKE - there is nothing fake about the ADVICE.

Orange County will go on lock down Thursday night. But can still go to the Grocery Stores and walk and medical stuff. We can reduce exposure but not eliminate.

Marvic 1 03-24-2020 09:11 PM

OK, no need to continue, I'll leave it at that.... Keep safe my friend! :beer3:

dewilson58 03-25-2020 05:53 AM

Played an Exec course yesterday with Bride, sis and bro inlaw.

We don't even putt at the hole, we throw out a yellow ball and putt at that.
It works.

The starter wanted to handle out ID's........I nicely said, Nope.
He understood.

walterray1 03-25-2020 09:05 AM

We played Cane Garden yesterday. Easy check in with credit card swipe. No receipt or starter ticket given. Each of our foursome used own cart. While on first hole of Hibiscus a golf employee installed plastic piece in the cup to prevent ball from going in. Was kind a strange and a challenge to actually hit the thing. Part way through playing saw no piece in the cup on the 6th. Mentioned to the ambassador and he said some people were taking them out. A good way to get things cancelled for the rest of us if you cant play by the rules.

Two Bills 03-25-2020 09:16 AM

I can't see the problem.
99% of the people we play with, consider anything within 3 foot of the cup, a gimme.
Some can go a whole round without the ball ever entering the cup!

DonH57 03-25-2020 09:21 AM

We played at Oakleigh. The rakes were removed from the bunkers. Practice putting green had the sticks, no holes. With everything going on we're better off pretending to hit the ball from tee off to hole. I'm actually now considering to stop golfing for awhile but I have no other amenities to use as it is.

Marvic 1 03-25-2020 09:34 AM

I went to the Villages website Tee-Time system in order to schedule foursome golf play for Monday, But looks like they are stopping golf play. Was not able to see any available golf courses for that day....

rustyp 03-25-2020 09:37 AM

Not the hardest of all sacrifices. We still have electricity, air conditioning, running water, flush toilets, gasoline, television, internet, ability to get food and supplies, etc. Imagine if this was a major hurricane. 14 days would seem like eternity. These 14 days at present only feel like being in time out when I was in Kindergarten.

Call them.....computer issue, keep checking back. Please don't make assumptions, easy enough to find out facts without stirring the pot any more than some do on here.

Are you trying to schedule a tee time or make a request?
You can only schedule 3 days in advance and request 5 days in advance. As of now the courses are remaining open.

bilcon 03-25-2020 09:48 AM

I haven't heard a good idea yet. You are outside in the air, you are not on top of others. You are getting fresh air. How are you going to get the virus. If you are stupid enough to hug your buddy or congregate in groups at the end of the round, then that is your problem .
You go to the grocery store which is a lot more dangerous than a golf course. You don't have to handle anything that doesn't belong to you when playing golf. Yesterday, at one of the supermarkets, I ordered Mac and cheese. The girl who served it to me had no gloves on, then put her fingers inside the lid while spooning the contents into my carryout container. I cancelled the order after telling the manager what happened. All the other deli workers had on gloves. I didn't touch anything, not did anyone else touch anything when I signed up and played golf. I brought my own pen to sign my charge receipt. SOOOOOOO, we should close the golf courses?

I have to say something else about closing Courses. I just saw something that is changing the way I think. I passed Kenya golf course 10 min ago and there under the trees at the 9th hole were about 15 guys standing on top of each other BS about their game.
This kind of behavior is exactly what will cause the courses to close.

You cna make a request 7 days ahead. My husband's request for Monday is visible.

Read my post again: I said "looks like" does not mean "they did" stop..
So please keep calm and don't freak out on us for any little thing someone post on here, Have a safe day..

DonH57 03-25-2020 09:54 AM

If they are there is no announcement of closing them on golf the villages. I need to pay my executive trail fees but I'm not forking out the money and end up possibly losing 4 to 6 months of using it. There are no refunds on trail fees. I hop it don't come to that.

I agree follow the rules or the golf courses will close. You just have to wonder why so many feel so entitled that rules don’t apply to them especially as we fight this deadly virus. Where does this come from? Most of us were not raised that way. Dog parks closed because some dog owners didn’t follow the Coronavirus rules.

Yes but if you put in a request today, Wednesday, you can only request from this coming Sunday to Wednesday. I didn't explain myself very well.

Thank you Steve for you reply...
This morning I was trying to make a schedule play for Monday.
Could be the system had a glitch at that moment, will try again later...

Not a glitch, just tried and can't specify any course for Monday This is after 11 PM on Wednesday. They have to close the courses to comply with the 14 day self isolation for both the golfers and more importantly, the workers

You can't "reserve" a tee time for Monday today. Like I said, you can only reserve a tee time no longer than 3 days in advance. I just tried for Saturday and it worked.
Now if you want to make a "request" for Monday, you can do that. As of now the courses are not closing, and there is no order to shelter in place...yet

Actually not ONLY their problem because when all those that got hugged go all over The Villages it could become ALL OF OUR problems. If someone wants to kill themselves I'm OK with that but please don't kill me. Kinda like smoking. I don't care if someone else makes themselves sick smoking, just don't make me sick too.

No More Rakes or Flagsticks

Of course, under the fairly new rule, you don't have to remove the stick anyway.

All executive courses have removed rakes from bunkers and replaced flagsticks and cups. I don’t know if this has been done on the championship courses. I will find out today. I hope they don’t close the courses, but it is inevitable if there is a spike in positive cases in The Villages. I am playing a lot less golf than I have in the past. I played alone yesterday afternoon.
