Green light bulbs on light posts.

The Meaning of Green
"Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. "Greenlight" is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement.
The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of veterans, and "greenlight" them forward as valued members of our communities."
What is Greenlight a Vet?
America's veterans are some of our nation's bravest, hardest-working men and women.
However, it is hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when, back home and out of uniform; they are more camouflaged than ever.
Greenlight a Vet is a campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green.
Change One Light to Green
Let us honor our veterans not only on November 11th, but all year round by changing one light to green in a visible location - on your porch, your home, or at your office- and keep it glowing every day as a symbol of appreciation and support for our veterans.
To help share your support, take a picture of your green light and post it using the hashtag #greenlightavet.

Years ago, I had one of those black light bug electrocution things. Most of what it attracted was moths. Mosquitoes for example are not attracted by light.

My neighbor had red lights for a while. Someone, NOT ME, must have told him what that means

I put up one of those black light bug execution lights when I lived in the mountains of Pennsylvania, with the same result you had. It killed thousands of mosquitoes, drawn probably from so far away that they wouldn’t have otherwise found my house, but I didn’t notice a decrease in mosquitoes. What I did notice was that the light was drawing and electrocuting Luna moths and other beautiful moths. This is the only time I saw Luna moths in Pennsylvania. I didn’t even know they lived there. Unwilling to kill such beautiful creatures without a good reason, I took down the light after a few days.

Just being nosy….

I’ve seen white lights and I’ve seen blue lights on the lamp posts in front of individual houses. Now I’ve noticed that some houses have green lights on their lamp posts.
Does anyone know if there is any significance to the green or blue lights on the lamp posts?

Thanks
Julie

By now you know the answer, but our street has become too dark because of this symbolic act. This is a safety issue.

We’d rather donate $ to veterans organizations & put flags out on appropriate days, never touching the ground. An individual choice.

Green light- means the household contains a military veteran or supports the military.
Blue lights- means the household contains a retired police officer or supports the police.
Red lights- means that the household contains a retired firefighter or supports firefighters

Green Light means "support your local landscaper"?

In our neighborhood at Christmas time we alternate one house will have a greenlight the other one will have a red light. Some people just don’t take their green lights down

That is true ……. However, the post is not the only thing on that circuit so anything else on that circuit would also be “dead”

A better solution is to place a blown bulb in the post or partially unscrew the bulb so that it doesn’t turn on …..
