Do you know that for a fact; and, if so, please point us to links that support this statement.

We had our roof replaced under our homeowner's policy, after our roof was surveyed by the insurance company's adjuster and the repair approved, in advance, by our insurance company. Note that I write "insurance" company not "roofing" company.

During the repair, the installers found and replaced three, 4' x 8' pieces of underlayment, done at no additional charge to us, after having been approved by the "insurance" company.

Our out-of-pocket expense for the job was the deductible on our policy.

Having been in the insurance business for nearly three decades, please believe me that insurance companies WILL NOT spend a penny unless they feel that the expense is in their best interests.

So there commercials on TV are BS.

I had USAA from 2011 until 2018, their rates were better in the beginning. I switched in 2011 because I was in Maryland and the company I was with went up $700 for two cars. USAA was cheaper than the price I was paying before. I was paying $901 and then it jumped to $1600, I had no tickets, I only bought a new car, a 2011 Mazda 3 Grand Touring, I traded in a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. USAA was $850 for both the Mazda and my other car, a Chevy Lumina, so I switched.

Everything was going along fine, only had one car here in Florida and I was paying $440 every six months. In 2018 I traded in a 2017 50th Anniversary Camaro with 3,000 miles, it had a sticker price of $39,500, my cost was $29,900. I traded for a new 2018 Hyundai Kona Limited model, my price was $24,200. USAA raised my premiums to $500 every six months ($120 a year increase). I called and asked why did you increase my premiums when I bought a cheaper car? They couldn't answer me, they said it's all done by computer.

After calling a few places, I found AAA was only $410 for my new Kona and in fact the second year it went down to $360 every six months.

I had similar experience with USAA was very overpriced on 2013 model again this year I asked for a price quote for 2020 weren’t even in the ballpark of AARP Hartford

Other companies will also be sending non renewals to lower exposure.

Your first mistake is using the villages insurance company. They are very expensive. I used an outside agency and my cost was 40% less for the same coverage. Also, if you read your sink hole portion of the policy you will probably cancel it.

not in our case. villages ins found us the best policy for what we needed. they compared costs openly & discussed everything along the way in person. maybe you needed a better representative. ours was great. feel free to pm me for more info

The homeowners insurance game

We have had Amica for years - top rated by consumer reports- and no problems until last year. When traveling to New Zealand to visit our daughter my backpack was left behind and lost on the way back to the US with Rx glasses, kindle, cash, credit cards, clothing and more. I filed a claim with my travel insurance and after MUCH messing around they said I had to file with my homeowners first. Amica paid fairly promptly and then the travel ins company said I already got enough and they would not cover any more.
THEN my Amica policy rate jumped for the next 3 to 5 years - forgot what they said I was so angry. We had cars, umbrella and house with them.
Very angry with them so I dropped them for home owners but car and umbrella still with them. Building a new house at TV and will consider switching everything to another company.
