Thank you all very much for the insightful responses. This gives me a lot to think about. Being divorced, I do not really NEED two cars, but I am a bit of a gearhead. The 2017 Porsche SUV is my daily driver and excellent for long road trips which I hope to do a lot more of if this stupid virus ever goes away. The 2018 Mercedes convertible is a lot of fun to drive and will probably get even more use in the sunshine state. If I keep them both and add a golf cart I need a 2.5 car garage.

You will only need one car here. If you are a couple and both play golf, you may need two golf carts.

We moved here in one car and left two cars behind in N.J. Two months after we arrived here we bought a Brand New 2016 Yamaha Gas Cart that was not fuel injected. We were told that that cart was a major mistake. It was not. It has serviced us flawlessly. We put about 6000 miles on The Cart in 4 years.

Our car averages 3000 to 5000 miles per year not counting the trips up north.

We were given an Ez-Slow Electric Cart which is a perfect vehicle to have for my wife to run around with to the pool and visit friends. She loves it. It is a 2007 and looks like brand new. It can't handle me. It is a 36 Volt, just brutal. It does 17 MPH with my wife driving and about 6 MPH with me driving it.

So after the two-year mark, I gave the green light to our kids to sell our 2008 Clubman Mini Cooper, and then when we went up for a visit at Christmas of 2018 I sold my H2 Hummer. I deeply regret selling both of them. Especially the Mini.

One Car and One Cart would be my recommendation. I almost bought an Atomic Cart about a year ago but even though I love the look and the Specs I don't like that there is only one repair option. You really can't go wrong with owning too few vehicles because you can remedy the situation quickly. Good Luck to you!

Got rid of one car...down to one car and a cart....12 years here...maybe 3 times...clearly less than 5...only having one car was an issue.
Go to doc, dentist, grocery, etc, etc. on the cart. Car is for "off the compound travel"...generally as a couple.

I bought a 2018 Toyota 2 years ago and have 2100 miles on it. That is with 3 months up north each summer. I bought 2020 Yamaha gas on December 7 and by the beginning of May had 1500 miles on it. Live in Orange Blossom, but golf all over.

That's hard to say as we travel out of state and visit other parts of FL. There are times when our car only moves 1 or 2 times a month. BUT me are located centrally just 15 minutes south of Sumter landing and can easily take the gold cart to any of the 3 villages. If you are thinking of the new southern areas, I think it will be harder to use the golf cart - at least until they get some bridges open and more restaurants and grocery stores open. When we go someplace, we first ask our-self can I get there by golf cart.

We moved here with 2 cars and soon purchased a golf cart, that was a year ago. 2 months ago I looked at the mileage on the second car and had 800 miles on it in 10 months. Sold it and really like the extra room in the garage and have not missed the second car, so much of what we do is done with the golf cart.

We have had 2 SUVs since we moved here and a gas golf cart.

I average about 6,000 miles/ year & my husband about 2,000. I don’t use the golf cart a lot in Summer & never in the rain or at night. (2014 Yamaha with 1,500 miles on it.)

During Covid our mileage has been very low.

We’ve been talking about getting rid of my SUV and keeping one SUV and the cart. I would use the cart more with 1 car.

I am on my third month of a year lease and like you I also plan on becoming a permanent villager, for me I felt I needed a “trial run” before I purchase. So far, I have no need for a golf cart, and I find myself driving quite a bit. Personally, if your maximizing your TV experience you are still driving your car and getting out of “The Bubble” when you can.

One of the key items I enjoy is the location, from TV you are a 60 to 90-minute drive from areas that provide a wealth of enjoyment. So far, I have made long day trips and quick overnight stay trips to the Orlando/Kissimmee area for Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld and International Drive with all the shopping, restaurants and entertainment options. I can drive east to Daytona Beach or west to beautiful Crystal Rivers.

While your still able to drive, maximize your retirement years in TV, keep the best of the two cars and plan your may drive 5K or more a year depending on your desire to get away.

As banjobob said, there are some people in The Villages that rent a car when they want to leave the bubble. Some find it more economical than paying for upkeep and insurance for a vehicle that sits in the garage most of the time.

Depends on your life style. We need 2 cars and one golf cart. If you two are very active but go to differents rec centers, then you need two cars. A lot of the clubs would take too long by golf cart. The cart is nice when we are together in the evenings or going local .

We happily went down to one car and two carts. We live in the Northern area near Savannah center so many restaurants and shopping are close by. We enjoy using the carts as we are out in the beauty and more leisurely pace. Of course we use our car in the really hot days or storms but actually take our cart most. It’s up to your personal habits and likes. We bought out second cart 10 months ago and have put about 1800 miles on it so far. It was scary at first giving up the second car, but after a month or so, we don’t miss it at all. Best of luck and welcome.

Just an FYI you can buy a windshield that doesnt open , therefore your wife wont have to worry about her hair being messed up. My wife is the same way. I do have to say that our golf cart has a Curtis enclosable top.
