Never seem to have a problem going back to sleep. ALWAYS wake up at around 5am, more often than not right on the dot. Not retired yet and still work M-F, but haven't set an alarm for years.

I don't understand how my internal clock works, but it's nice not having to remember to set an alarm.

I am fascinated by the concept of an internal clock. I wake up at 6 am virtually every morning, but if I have to get up earlier for some reason, I will set the alarm and invariably wake up moments before the alarm goes off. It is uncanny and I really wonder how the subconscious mind works to allow that.

I have always run on 5/6 hours of sleep per night. I do not take naps and usually excercise daily. I have always believed that if you are having problems with sleep, you are sleeping too much or taking naps. Good quality sleep for shorter periods may be better.

i usually wake up around 4 30 am when the cat demands to be fed. after giving her some canned food and going to the bathroom i pick up the daily sun from the driveway, get under the covers, and read the newspaper. that puts me right back to sleep!

I might try this.....I wake up and can't get back to sleep, usually about 4am, too.

The other day (a very cold morning) I was up just before sunrise, and there was a woman walking her dog around the lake, so I must not be the only early bird, at least I don't have to get up to walk the dog.

Now, yesterday morning I woke up at 3, was awake until 5 then went back to bed, and slept until 9:45! I felt "behind" all day.

I am thinking about getting up at 6 every day, and going to an early exercise class.

I'm usually awake around 3:00 a.m. no matter what time I go to bed. I just get up and work on whatever project I have going at the time.

This week is going to be busy. First edits on two books, and six costumes to make for a Christmas parade on the 9th! Something tells me my sleep habits will come in handy over the next week!

my goodness, you are busy!

The internal clock used to work for me but somehow the spring got broken.

These days, I need to rely on an alarm clock.

I don't think it is age related (although in some cases it may be) because I have been doing it for years.....MANY YEARS!

I typically always get a good night's sleep i.e. 6-8 hours....but every once in a while...........wide awake!!! If I can't get back to sleep in 15 minutes or less, I am up for the day.

What tricks do you use to try to get back to sleep?

btk

Have you tried warm milk?

That is what my grandmother always did. Recommended on several sites.

I don't usually have a problem getting back to sleep but when I do, a small glass of room temperature red wine works for me.
Added benefit of cleaning the blood platelets while asleep!

....Glad that works for you.......

Can you answer one question please....Since RED wine is ALWAYS to be served at room temperature, are you able to drink it at other times without getting sleepy?.

It happened to me last night. I rarely have trouble getting to sleep, but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night. Last night I got up at 3:00 after 2 hours of trying to go back to sleep and went to get a melatonin. I was sleeping within 30 minutes.

your going to laugh...take a nap in the afternoon...there good for you :)

I am up around 4:00AM everyday without an alarm clock/radio. Once awaken usually am ready to start my day. Conversely I retire early and find that most nights I'm out before my head hits the pillow. If I am awaken during the night usually can go bak to sleep. My method is to simply think to myself "go black"like the say when closing a scene in the movies If I do nap during the day it is usually for 1/2 hour only. I like the quiet of the morning read my papers and have two cups of coffee

There is something about wine that relaxes the central nervous system. I know after a heavy meal with wine, I fall asleep preety fast.
