That's right, let it go. Not worth the stress. You give them all the power. These incidents tend to mount up over time and you'll drive yourself crazy.

Did you ever notice that driving signals and nice personalities seem to be left at the Georgia state line?

Actually, these kind of rude and mean things seem to be happening more and more. When DH gets excited about stupid drivers (cars and/or carts) I remind him that when he's elected King, he can set the rules and send them all packing.

I am curious though, do you feel that it happens more during the "high" season? My neighbor just returned from 3 weeks with the grand kids and said we should put all these nasty drivers in "time out". Then there would be only you and me on the road, and I don't swear (too much) or get mean.

Sorry to hear about your experience Shandrell. I know how something like that can get under your skin and ruin the moment.

It reminds me of something that happened to me last summer at LSL. I was driving around the square (in the morning) and saw a car backing out of a spot in front of Starbucks (where I was going). I put on my blinker, stopped my cart, and waited for them to back out. All of a sudden I heard the blast of a golf cart horn behind me. I looked in my mirror and see a man having a conniption fit. I waved him around and as he pulled up next to me, he yelled “what are you stopping for?”. I replied “I’m waiting for this parking space”, to which he yelled “so you block two lanes of traffic to wait for a parking spot?!? Why don’t you just drive around the square until you find one?” Here’s the thing...he was the only person behind me...in either lane. For a moment I was shocked into silence by his vitriol, and then he sped off, cussing all the way. It pretty much ruined my whole morning. I spent it thinking of all of the things I could have/should have said to him.

In the end, I found comfort in the fact that at least I wasn’t so mad at the world, that I would act that way or speak to a fellow Villager that way.

I suspect if the positions were reversed, that idiot would have considered it his right to sit there waiting for the space to open up no matter how many cars backed up behind him.

So true and one should be so glad they don't have to go home with them. :D

First of all,, I am sorry this happened to you.

Some people can only see the person who matters in the mirror. :D

Unfortunately, this is how too many are bringing up their children these days. It's just with the "me, me, me" mentality. Thank God for parents who taught us about courtesy.

Here's the irony.... Who raised the parents that are bringing up their children this way ???

mulligan 02-28-2013 09:48 AM

Therein lies the problem. It's the first generation of kids left at home by 2 working parents.

I loved the movie - Fried Green Tomatoes - Where Kathy Bates takes her frustration out on a little chippy who stole her parking space - and then told the stunned young girl, "I'm better insured than you" and walked away. If you've not seen it, rent the movie. It is very refreshing.

The parking lot Sandra was in (behind the Sales Center) is private property of The Villages. I would have jotted down the license plate number and state of the arrogant driver who did that, to take it into the Sales Office. I'd insist on speaking with the administrative or sales manager of the complex at LSL, to tell them how this driver portrays "Florida's Friendliest Hometown". Maybe TV would like to get the car towed and impounded. :clap2::clap2::clap2:

Fortunately I'd guess that level of rudeness rears its head with 1 in 5,000 people here.

At this age I just let things dry up and blow away. You can't control other's just your own actions .I just would be glad it was not me acting like that.

I know, we live in "the bubble" Having lived here three years, me and hubby are loving The Lifestyle, along with the general sense of comeraderie and good spirits evidenced throughout The Villages. Until yesterday. I know the following story is a storm in a teacup, but what a show of bad manners I was "treated" to. I had driven to Lake Sumter Sales Center to meet visiting friends and look at properties for sale with one of the agents. As I backed my golf cart into a parking space, in the ample and not full parking lot to the rear of the Center, a car, with three women in it came at a good speed toward me (as I was reversing into the slot), and drove around me and into the space I had already reversed 2/3 of the way into on the right..:swear: I was so stunned, although jammed on my break, that I sat in the cart as the three women (ages approximately 60's, 40's and a thirty something, and remarkably similar in looks) brazenly stepped out of their car and tried not to make eye contact with me, still parked half in and half out of the space. When I asked "why did you pull into this space when I was already in it, especially as there open spaces all around us.?" The driver, looked very annoyed that I had spoken, and responded" well, I did not know WHAT you were doing"... Deciding I could not argue with ignorance, I let it go. My imagination went into overdrive of all I should have said, should have done, "woulda coulda shoulda".... :rant-rave:AAARRRGGGG

Yes, it was very rude of those New York women to do that and I would have been upset for a moment, too. However, there were lots of empty spaces for you to go into so it was no real inconvenience to you. Relax and continue to enjoy The Villages as you have for 3 years. Remember, it is Snowbird Season and these people will be going back home in 6 more weeks and we will have our Villages to ourselves again until next November.
