First off I'll mention that we always walk on the left side (ie, into traffic), and that our observation only applies if there are no carts coming from behind us (fyi, if there are carts coming from both directions at the same time, we simply step off the path onto the grass, ceding the right of way).

So, when there is a cart coming at us (and no other carts, bikes, or walkers anywhere around), our observation is this: When MEN are driving the oncoming cart, they pull way over to their left, giving us wide berth which provides us with a comfortable safety buffer. On the other hand, WOMEN do not do this and instead (inexplicably) generally hold to their current lane on the right side of the path.

Suffice to say we don't understand this phenomenon, and if anyone does, we'd love to hear the reasoning. But in any case, we walkers would like to thank those cart drivers who swing wide left when approaching walkers, and we'd like to ask more (all) of you to please do the same (when you can). Thank you.

Men are gentlemen and women are, well women……:D joke it’s——a joke. Some women don’t like driving on wrong side of road unless of course they are from England…..

I also never go over the center line when driving an automobile. That is dangerous. I will never understand why drivers move to the left of the center line when a golf cart is coming up on their right in the MMP. There is room for both of you unless you are driving a huge truck with a wide load.

Liability

I don't fault your logic, under normal circumstances. But you have a legal responsibility to avoid an accident. Also, there are many reasons a person may be unable to get out of the way. It could be that Javabean just had a stroke and has no idea where he is or how he got there. Or, he could just be an add hole. But you can't be sure.

The woman was walking with a couple of friends and there was no room for her on the sidewalk as they walked abreast. She walked in the MMP and was hit by a golf cart.

There is no MMP along Odell circle as far as I can see. There is a cart lane but a cart lane is not an MMP.

Or often called a diamond lane.

Pass a stopped delivery truck - at least 3 feet. Encounter a pedestrian - at least 3 feet. This is required by law for bicycles (316.083(2) & (3)) and is just a good way to stay safe for everything else.

Usually, this means I will need to cross the center line at least part way. If that is not safe (poor visibility, oncoming vehicles) then it is simple: just wait. The law explicitly allows this in non-passing zones when avoiding obstructions (316.0875(3)(a)) and passing a bicycle (316.0875(3)(c)).

I use the same practices when avoiding pedestrians, bicycles, and other obstructions when driving a golf cart.

Lots of rules when walking on roads, streets, private roads in Florida.

In villages most walkers seem to blunder along and have no clue of rules when walking. :22yikes:

You don't consider the walkers "an obstacle"?. What is a "an obstacle" then? Some inanimate object that might damage your cart? And you give that object a wide berth but not a person? Knowing your posts over the years, this did not sound like you at all. Bad day?

Sure. Paragraphs (4) and (15) seem to be pertinent to this thread.

And if they trip trying to get out of your way, you run them over, please tell us how you would sleep at night.

My guess is very well, satisfied the person was Stupid and didn’t get out of your way.

I’m being mischievous but if they were walking in the diamond lane beside the sidewalk, I’d have my air horn on the cart give them an ear-piercing blast, I assume a person that dumb needs a loud warning.

Yes, you are correct. I'm referring to the cart lane on a roadway such as Odell Circle. My bad.

Yes, you are right about that. I have been referring to a cart lane as a MMP. My mistake. Having said that........I'm still looking for a link that states the pedestrian has right of way on a MMP. I don't see that in writing in the information I have looked at.

Do pedestrians have the right of way on a cart path that is adjacent to a roadway (such as Odell Circle)?

Yes, thank you. I knew that. I guess I had a "brain fart". Goes along with old age.
