I liked Big Y better too. Stop & Shop had good sales but the store was dingy and smelled bad, the shopping carts were all metal and in horrible condition, and management was nasty. It was also a Union shop and employees who already had comprehensive health care through their spouse's employment somewhere else, were not *allowed* to opt out and not pay for the health plan through the shop union. They also were not *allowed* to not be a union member. I got tired of getting 8 hour weeks, which netted me only 5 hours of pay after taxes and union dues. So I quit.

Didn't work for Big Y but it was in walking distance for anything light enough to carry home. We also had a Walmart but I very rarely ever shopped there. Big Y had those Buy 1 Get TWO free sales - I would always stock up on anything we used regularly when they did that. Plus it was clean, spacious, well-lit, the customer service was outstanding. It was basically the northern version of Publix, with better sales and not as good of a sub/hot foods department.

They were okay with bag-ging groceries. But seriously - why are all the cashiers and bag-gers so SLOW down here? I wanna get my stuff through check-out, into my car, and home before the ice cream melts.

You are entitled to "inspect the quality of any job that you are paying for", which includes bagging groceries and ensuring that the bags make it into your shopping cart. People should never by shy about inspecting the quality of work that they are paying for, whether it be bagging groceries or a tradesman's work around their home. Anyone that takes pride in their work should appreciate it. You shouldn't care about what the check out person likes or doesn't like.

There must not be any Publix in Massachusetts!

You’re right about that.
Even S&S is cheap compared to Publix.
Unfortunately there isn’t much of a choice around The Villages.

Lots of shopping choices here.

That’s why Publix is better than Walmart.

I Pack my own bags and don't have that problem.

Its happened to me a few times and more recently I have started to check the bag carousel to check I have all my bags, but the check out person doesn't seem to like this. I check my receipt to make sure I paid for the item, but clearly the bag has not been given to me. Annoyed today, as I am missing a "much looked forward to" candy bar!!! Rant over.......

I know! I left wine! :rant-rave:

I prefer self-packing my groceries, for sanitary reasons.

Several years back I was shopping at Wal-Mart (not in TV). The clerk (younger gal who seemed to be moving in slow motion) was ringing up my purchases and bagging them as she went. She went to open another bag on the carousel, licking her thumb first. As she did, a thick line of drool, maybe 6" - 8" long, emanated from her mouth to her thumb and plopped down on the front of her shirt.

No sale. I told the manager on the way out but I don't know if anything was ever done.

Winn Dixie, Aldis, Walmart & Target are not very good options.

I accidentally left one of my bags at self checkout at Colony Walmart. As I exited store a young employee came after me with my forgotten bag. So appreciative that he came after me in parking lot.

That's what you get for shopping at a store with no front end customer service people.

I don't use Kroger delivery, but do use Publix Instacart delivery. Been using them since the pandemic. We are forever spoiled! A real chore if we have to go because I end up needing a couple items. That should be our only problem in life! Right!

Just wondering what all the other people on line waiting for the self checkout think of you going at “your own pace”?
