Yes , absolutely. Know what price you are willing to pay and stick to it. Also let them know how long you will experience their “ hospitality “ before you leave like “ ok sir you have exactly 30 minutes because I have another appointment “. It really is amazing that people keep going to that dealership (several under that name) . It is close and convenient for service but really YOU ARE RETIRED! What else do you have to do but drive a little farther like Ocala for service or just get your (other than warranty) service done at Wildwood Tire

Dude! Where in the HE double hockey sticks have you been? Hope you are well ! I even started a thread asking if anyone knew why you vanished! You handled the Jenkins situation better than I would have! If they didn’t bring me my keys when I asked for them I would have been the one the police were called on.

I was on a "vacation" (not my idea)...

Oh, and it wasn't Jenkins that did that to me. It happened when I was 19-20 something...

That was a long vacay! I’m sure you will be a good boy now :bigbow:

Stop the presses!

What? A car dealer that is deceptive? I never heard of such a thing! Thank you Captain Obvious!

Same experience at a Toyota Dealer in Gainesville this spring. Brand new car advertised for 47K. I went up there with a car that Carvana told me they would give me 42K for. After talking to the sales manager and telling him what Carvana offered for my car the salesman came back and the out the door price became 53K (2500 dollar dealer profit fee included, plus 1800 in cheap addons I don't want) ) and offered me 38K for my car. I just got up and left. I went to Carvana, got the same car with 5000 miles on it but it was a 2021 for 42K and they gave me 42K for my car. I just had fees like for license plates to pay to pick up the car.

This would be a good idea until the dispatcher heard the reason for assistance.
You would be at the dealership for hours and still no keys.

Yes, that's good advice.
Any dealership that wants to evaluate my trade, I'm standing there with my keys.
If we need to go for a ride, I go along.

Sloppy work, but not a big deal.

Sloppy work yes, there is such a thing as rags.
Wipe/mop it up the best you can, then inform the owner so they know why oil is on their garage floor.
Common sense

I am amazed at the number of Jenkins license plate frames here in TV. I walked out of their Honda dealership in 2019 and bought a Ridgeline in Ocala for the price they offered on line. 9k less than Jenkins. Apparently though they have a lot of happy (screwed royally without even knowing it) customers.

Maybe Gov Desantis could do something about these dealership bandits.

Need to check when price gouging laws apply and I do feel that they only apply after an emergency such as a hurricane.

WC Fields was right. So many other dealers to choose from

Follow up to the original post, and the subsequent purchase of the 2019 Buick Encore from George Nahas:

Intermittent wipers weren't working, so I took it in. They informed me that they weren't working because at some point the windshield was replaced, and the sensor wasn't reinstalled. Initially, the service person wanted to make it my problem but I reminded them that this was a certified pre-owned vehicle, and that is one of the things they should have checked. After a little back and forth they agreed, and they fixed the problem under warranty.

Would have been better for them to offer that up front, but it ultimately got resolved. Bet they check that closer in the future for any car they want to sell as "certified"

Numerous posts here about Jenkins, not a good rep from most.

Leesburg VW Price (excl. taxes & fees)

Mileage: 43,480

OK, reasonable deal, so I dig deeper into the website:

Pay Cash - $22,921

Wow. $6,021 more. I understand taxes, registration, etc. But here's their breakdown:

Registration & Fees include $492.40 DMV fee , $999.00 documentation fee , $349.95 electronic filing fee and $2,863.00 Jenkins Value Package. Total $4704? That's not $6,021 for starters.

So I get the first three, although that documentation fee seems high. But the "Jenkins Value Package"? So I call, and I'm given the explanation of "Well, other dealers just call it mark up, but we give you something for it" Ok, like what?

"Floor mats, pinstriping, and a 130 point inspection" My response: "So you weren't inspecting your used cars before? You just took them on trade-in, and put them on the lot? I might as well buy from a private party and take my chances, at least I'll save money for the repairs". Mumble, Mumble. I say thank you and hang up.

Look, I get it. Cars are in short supply, so prices are elevated. No issue with that. What the market will bear, right?

But to advertise a price that is $4180 (value package plus the extra markup before taxes and fees) less that what you actually want to sell it for is dishonest. If your start price you want is $21,080, advertise it upfront that way. Then I can decide if I want to come out and look at it, with the knowledge that is what you want, and I'm probably going to have to pay that price if I want it.

Jenkins, the market will change at some point to more like what it was. But my memory won't change.

Here's the link to the vehicle in you want to confirm my numbers, for as long as the post is active.

Pre-Owned Buick Encore for sale in Leesburg

Hanging onto the old one a bit longer, and looking on TOTV for my next one from a private party.

Crooooooks!
