Sorry to change to another car problem , I am home waiting for tow because Saturday night I noticed oil on garage floor of my 7,000 mile 2022 car after an oil change , I’m not going to say who did it (YET) but I’m hoping it’s just something they didn’t tighten but if they broke something I’m certainly going to let you all know , I hope no one breaks down on highway I called AAA at 8Am it’s now 9:58

What was oil reading on the dip stick? I don’t care where I get my oil changed at before I get in car I pull the dip stick and look under it for oil dripping. When I get home I do the same. Luck for me never seen leaks, but oil level was over full quite few times.

I agree. I always let them give me their OTD price in writing after test driving it and allowing them to inspect the trade-in. Then, I leave and schedule another appointment the next day, and present to them my take-it-or-leave-it offer in person. I don't think you will ever get the dealer's best price any other way.

If the dealer's OTD offer seems low, I always check the manufacturer's website for the current rebates. If you don't know what rebates apply, some dealers will not show the rebates in their OTD offer, but they will back them into the sales contract after you accepted the deal, so they can keep the rebate.

Good luck with that.

Once in 1995 I asked a salesman for their OTD price and never got an answer.

After that, we always computed our own OTD. We would just walk into a dealer and make that offer, contingent on us taking the car for a test drive.

Sometimes they accepted and sometimes they didn't. If they didn't, we would go to another dealer and offer $50 more.

Of course, this was in Fairfax county Virginia. We were buying a Honda Accord and there were 7 dealers near our house, so if one dealer refused our offer, we could easily increase our offer and go somewhere else.

In The Villages there are fewer dealers and we didn't know what we would do if Phillips Toyota refused our offer. However, they accepted our offer, so that was that.

When I visit a dealership, the first thing I tell them is that I will not be buying a vehicle today because my mother always told me to sleep on a major purchase before deciding to buy. I test drive the vehicle I want and ask the salesperson to give me a copy of the window sticker and a written quote, including trade-in, and all other costs. I have never had an issue with getting that from a dealer. Then, I come back the next day with my checkbook, title, and a cleaned-out car. I make them an OTD offer on a piece of paper and give them 15 minutes to accept it. I never sit in their office. If they try to negotiate, I give them my card and tell them that they can call me if they change their mind, and then I leave. That process has worked for me several times for every vehicle I have purchased.

For those following my oil adventure , it turned out the plug wasn’t snapped in , so they fixed and gave me a free oil change good for a year and I got to ride in a big tow truck for the first time and for second time in my life used my AAA , now I’m going to take a nap lol

Negotiation 101 let the other party say the price first, never know what they will do.

Glad it worked out for you.

Ummm...I did walk away. What's your point, other than to be jealous of people that live in the Villages?

Leesburg VW Price (excl. taxes & fees)

Mileage: 43,480

OK, reasonable deal, so I dig deeper into the website:

Pay Cash - $22,921

Wow. $6,021 more. I understand taxes, registration, etc. But here's their breakdown:

Registration & Fees include $492.40 DMV fee , $999.00 documentation fee , $349.95 electronic filing fee and $2,863.00 Jenkins Value Package. Total $4704? That's not $6,021 for starters.

So I get the first three, although that documentation fee seems high. But the "Jenkins Value Package"? So I call, and I'm given the explanation of "Well, other dealers just call it mark up, but we give you something for it" Ok, like what?

"Floor mats, pinstriping, and a 130 point inspection" My response: "So you weren't inspecting your used cars before? You just took them on trade-in, and put them on the lot? I might as well buy from a private party and take my chances, at least I'll save money for the repairs". Mumble, Mumble. I say thank you and hang up.

Look, I get it. Cars are in short supply, so prices are elevated. No issue with that. What the market will bear, right?

But to advertise a price that is $4180 (value package plus the extra markup before taxes and fees) less that what you actually want to sell it for is dishonest. If your start price you want is $21,080, advertise it upfront that way. Then I can decide if I want to come out and look at it, with the knowledge that is what you want, and I'm probably going to have to pay that price if I want it.

Jenkins, the market will change at some point to more like what it was. But my memory won't change.

Here's the link to the vehicle in you want to confirm my numbers, for as long as the post is active.

Pre-Owned Buick Encore for sale in Leesburg

Hanging onto the old one a bit longer, and looking on TOTV for my next one from a private party.

Prior to Covid, we bought car from Jenkins and saw a lot of the mark up. We were able to negotiate most of these charges down. Appears now they are getting a lot more inflexible. Noted car was not a VW and sure it was not a certifed car. Buyers beware and take the time to shop around.

They handed me the phone, I dialed the operator, asked to be connected to the local police and my keys were in my hands within 30 seconds...

Needless to say, I left, never to step foot in their showroom again...

Dude! Where in the HE double hockey sticks have you been? Hope you are well ! I even started a thread asking if anyone knew why you vanished! You handled the Jenkins situation better than I would have! If they didn’t bring me my keys when I asked for them I would have been the one the police were called on.

I think that all car dealers are deceptive. Anyone who goes into a car dealership, who doesn't know how much the vehicles are worth, is asking the dealer to rip them off.

Yes , absolutely. Know what price you are willing to pay and stick to it. Also let them know how long you will experience their “ hospitality “ before you leave like “ ok sir you have exactly 30 minutes because I have another appointment “. It really is amazing that people keep going to that dealership (several under that name) . It is close and convenient for service but really YOU ARE RETIRED! What else do you have to do but drive a little farther like Ocala for service or just get your (other than warranty) service done at Wildwood Tire

Very true. Otherwise the first quote they give you will be sky high and apparently lots of people will bite which is why they do this.
