They are legit. I spoke to Sumter County Health Dept.

kansasr 01-11-2021 09:30 AM

Apparently people are having success entering 000-00-0000 as their social security number and indicating they have no insurance. This certainly seems like the best alternative. This seems to be legit and the company running it very legit. However, one data breach and someone has all of your contact information, your social and your medicare info.....I don't care how legit they are, I'm not putting that information out there with anyone except my doctor's office.

The villages news should have checked before posting. The us govt does not require any of this info for a vaccine. Beware.

never never give out your ss#. If necessary just use the last 4 numbers of your ss#

CEleiott 01-11-2021 09:51 AM

There seems to be two sites in this thread. safestart and saferestart. I have not been able to access the safestart site but was able to access the saferestart site where they asked for my SS #. The safestart site was on the front page of the paper this morning.

I totally agree with you! The shots are FREE so why would you give that information to them, that’s the kind of thing they need to get into your private info. Never heard anybody ever say they had give their private info to get something for FREE. Call your Congressman & have him check into it for you, that’s his job to help people
with issues like this.

From sumter.floridahealth.gov

Covid-19 Vaccination Events: Click here for details
Update 1/11: The events on 1/11 and 1/13 have reached capacity and registration is now closed. For additional Covid-19 vaccination events please check sumterfl.saferestart.net to register. This website is legitimate. We are currently not accepting registration by phone, in person, or via email - it is online only. Please check our the most recent press release.

DaleDivine 01-11-2021 10:42 AM

I registered for my wife and I. I just put in 00-000-0000 for SS# and no insurance.
Site said we will be notified for our vaccination.
:pray::pray:

kansasr 01-11-2021 10:53 AM

Just to clarify, the URL in the Daily Sun is incorrect.

This is the correct one:

Safe Restart

Got this response from American Medical Response:

Hi Richard,

Yes, we are taking reservations for vaccines via our website, Safe Restart. Global Medical Response is the parent company of American Medical Response, the county’s emergency medical transportation provider. We partnered with the county in September for a range of COVID 19 services.

I don't trust anything about this botched effort now. I was tempted to do very unfriendly things to them. I have learned from the Sumter Sheriff that this is a good offer -- just very poorly rolled out and presented to us. It is worth the effort to register (just use 000-00-0000 for SSN and don't give insurance numbers yet). Don't know when the appointment will be offered yet - but there are up to 94,000 shots over the next 90 days supposedly; 4,000 this week and up to 90,000 over the next 90 days.

Rosie53 01-11-2021 12:06 PM

I went on the Sumter county sheriff dept website and they have info about it as if it is legit.

Rosie53 01-11-2021 12:09 PM

I just spoke to someone at the sheriffs office. She said it is not a scam. Whether or not you put your ssn in it’s not going anywhere.

bonrich 01-11-2021 12:14 PM

All this chatter, back and forth, makes me wonder what is in that syringe?
Sorry.......

Where on the website does it say that? I'm looking at sumter.floridahealth.gov and I don't see anything about this. I assume I'm not looking at the correct page but I sure can't find it.

Can you paste the link to the page where you see it?

carol805 01-11-2021 12:35 PM

I have an appointment tomorrow. On Woodridge Drive in the field in back of Fresh Market tents are currently being set up.

bonrich 01-11-2021 12:43 PM

I went online, requested a code, got it, then did not have anyway to register the code to authenticate.
Not good..

You will get an additional code via email or text then you can schedule. It may take several hours. I registered last night and got the second code this morning.

swally 01-11-2021 12:53 PM

You never volunteer any info unless you initiate the contact. No reputable agency will phone you or email and ask for info. Cops, IRS, SSA, Medicare etc will send mail. Too many still falling for the scams.

Received email from Sheriff's office re: this program. However, they will not process request w/out SS #. I will not give this out to some unknown entity on a website. They do not need this information!!! Will wait for Sumter county health appointment or publix appointment.

eeroger 01-11-2021 12:58 PM

They don't even say what they are sticking in your arm? Nothing about what vaccine. I DO NOT TRUST THIS SITE.

Click on yellow covid 19 box.

Jnjguy 01-11-2021 01:09 PM

I was able to get an appointment for my wife and me tomorrow. Concerned with all the negative posts here I took my confirmation letter to the Sumter Co Health Dept to see if this was indeed legitimate. She assured me it was. She said the vaccine clinic is not being run by the Sumter county. She was not happy with the Daily Sun for posting incorrect information. She also said it will be held at different locations on different days. I went to the address given on the confirmation letter. It is a big empty field behind Fresh Market. They are putting up large white tents as we speak. I talked to a man at the entrance and asked him if this is where the vaccine clinic will be held tomorrow and he said yes.

I'm sure I clicked that box earlier and saw the press release from the 8th (as is indicated in the yellow box) but I see the Update there now.

Thanks again

The Sumter County website has the link as previous folks have listed. Makes me think it is legit.

Bonnevie 01-11-2021 02:01 PM

got email from Villages Health that included this: There is a larger scale vaccination effort starting in The Villages Tuesday, January 12, 2021 (link below). This effort is the result of a state contract with Global Medical Response (GMR) for a drive through vaccination site.

The biggest issues with the two approved vaccines are still production and distribution. GMR has 4,000 doses for vaccination this week and a commitment from the state for up to 90,000 doses over 90 days.

chrissy2231 01-11-2021 02:02 PM

Legit Sumterfl.saferestart.net
neighbor put in all zeros an got in. You can leave no for insurance request.
They will soon run out. Hurry

dahrens1 01-11-2021 02:07 PM

I registered last night around 9:20pm and got the second code and an appointment around 1:30pm today for tomorrow. They also gave me the date and time for the second shot four weeks from tomorrow so I assume this must be the Moderna vaccine and not the Pfizer which has the second shot three weeks after the first one.

donfey 01-11-2021 02:11 PM

Actually, they do want your medicare number and last 4 of your SS#. But in the case of Publix, they called for that info.

Good that this is legit, good that there is an organized effort for mass vaccinations and, if the numbers are correct, good that more than half the Sumter County residents will be vaccinated by the end of February.

I just have to wonder where this private company is getting the vaccine if the Dept of Health can't get it.

Folks,

I am in no way stating the site is either legitimate or not, but thought I would post this information for folks who may have used the sumterfl.safestart.net site and are now worried about a scam. The information I found seems to corroborate the person who stated SafeStart.net is related to GMR (Global Medical Response), the folks who own AMR ambulances.

I do have over thirty years of IT experience, for what that is worth. I first checked it with databases of known scams and suspicious sites. The site did not appear on any of those.

I then went to the site and chose Step 1 - I need to register for a covid vaccine. The site then took me to a page to authenticate, with the options being text, email, or call. I chose email as that would provide me with more info based on where the email came from.

The email did, in fact, come from GMR.net, which leads me to believe the site is legitimate. Again, I am in no way stating this site is legitimate, or not, I am simply stating to those who did sign up for vaccines via this site that you probably have nothing to worry about.

Regards,
Joe

Thanks Joe. I was hesitant last night to sign my mother up, raised my red flags, so I logged out. Had planned on confirming this morning but then saw it on the front page of the paper & figured I'd go ahead & sign my mother up. I was EXTREMELY uncomfortable putting her personal info in. I hope everything turns out to be fine.

graciegirl 01-11-2021 03:46 PM

We both accessed this site on The Daily Sun, online, at about nine last night and followed directions, than began to worry because of the request for insurance information and social security. Thank Goodness for some of the right information trickling in from the local site on Facebook, (along with some flat out fibs that the sheriff's office said it was a scam)

It is legit. Probably engineered somehow by the county powers, be it the Morses or the Commissioners or a combination of both....I will not look a gift horse in the mouth.

My husband has received confirmation complete with a bar code for this Wednesday. He must bring valid U.S. I.D. and the paper confirmation. It is in the blank field behind Red Lobster off 466. He also received confirmation for second shot also on Wednesday in early February.

Hope to get my confirmation soon too. I am so happy this is happening.

never ever give your ss# or a copy of the card. They don't need it but there is a place for it on the request form. Do not fill that part out. It is not necessary

It is on their website but apparently some people have not filled it out and the program accepted that.
