I was there today. I showed my VA ID to the cashier. He thanked me for my service and shook my hand. I may be mistaken but you can get a VA ID even if you do not have any disability. Mine says Service Connected on it so why would they put that on it if only Service Connected Vets could get one. May be worth looking into it.

Actually.. if you are a Vietnam Veteran you automatically qualify for service connected benefits no what your income bracket is. I know first hand after being denied while living in south Fl,. Moved here and showed my DD-214 to the VA they granted me benefits.

It wasn't until we moved here that the veteran's status on Lowe's became an issue to us.

In Utah, if you had a DD214 your driver's license was stamped VETERAN, and all my hubby had to do was show his driver's license and he received the 10% discount at Lowe's. Any day, every time we shopped at Lowe's, his veteran status was honored.

I think perhaps because there are so many retirees here, the "written policy" is strictly enforced. We weren't aware of the "written policy' in Utah. For 25 yrs he received the veteran discount with no questions asked. It was a bit embarrassing when we first bought something at Lowe's here in Lady Lake with my hubby and although he had his Utah driver's, stamped VETERAN, he was denied the discount. We felt like we had been trying to cheat them. Very perplexing.

We went online and found the policy. But it certainly isn't enforced uniformly across the country. They could make the qualifications much clearer. A "veteran" is anyone who honorably served our country and can show their DD214. Extra criteria should be clearly spelled out in ads that offer a10% discount to "veterans".

I think you're right. Maybe the OP should try again at the VA.

I think that the discount offered by @Lowe's and Home Depot has been well covered and a lot of helpful advice has been passed along...with that in mind here is some additional information regarding discounts which applies to Active Duty Military, Retired Military and their Dependents, and all Veteran's regardless of status...obviously a valid ID is required.

Walgreens in the Villages offers 25% Discount on all Walgreen products, 15% on all other products excluding cosmetics and alcohol. Just show your ID at time of purchase and your all set.

CVS does not offer this..don't waste your time asking.

I was also denied a VA ID card because of income limits. So after serving six years, I do not qualify even for an ID confirming that I am a veteran.

Service connected is a disability it could mean 10% or 150% disabled
Home Depot cared at one time but not anymore
Any card will get u the discount service connected or not
But you Must get a VA card to receive the discount

I don't understand why they won't issue you a card?
When I applied for a card no one asked me my income?
The only time I had a issue with income was with travel pay
They won't comp travel pay if you make too much $$
Speaking of travel pay the VA will comp you travel pay everytime you have a doctors appt if you submit the form
I lived 20 miles from the VA and the gave me $20 every visit

There is no income limit on the VA issued ID for veterans with qualifying service. Have no idea what you applied for, but it was not the VA issued card.

The card was authorized by legislation signed by the President and does not grant privileges for any veterans benefits. It is nothing more than an ID indicating proof of service.

You should be able to get an ID card from the VA, income determines what benefits you can get or if you have enough of a service connected disability.

Take your dd-214 to the dmv & have them put the v on your driver's license.
