If you have lived in the Villages for many years, you would understand. We have had to fight the Developer in court on several occasions. For us, this feels like a possible "Oh no! Here we go, AGAIN!' It is difficult to explain via a post. If you have questions or concerns, do some research.

I have been here since 2001. I am not trying to stir up old news. I am just stating that the Developer has made mistakes. It strikes a nerve in me when new residents believe the Villages is some sort of magical land where there are no problems. If anyone sees a problem, they are quickly seen as miserable human beings. Hate to break it you! The Villages is not free of problems. Never has been and never will be. We work it out, learn, and move on. There is no need to pretend.

Like other posters, I see problems with Middleton using our MMP paths on a daily basis. Who is going to monitor unattended children to make certain they behave safely and responsibly on them? We have some CRAZY (sometimes drunk) drivers on our paths. Is it a good idea to put children in the mix? I can list more of my concerns but I will stop there. I guess I will have to trust the parents to handle these issues. Hopefully, most are smart enough not to allow their children, even their teens, to meander freely.

The developer has done a lot more right than wrong. If you looking to stop growth and go back to the way it was in 2001it will never happen. Growth will occur and the developer will try new things. Middleton is for all the workers who serve you on a daily basis. I think it is fantastic they have a neighborhood so close to the new schools. I look forward to meeting and talking to them at Eastport.

In Florida now anyone driving a golf cart must have a drivers license unless an adult is with them then they must have a learners permit. The teens I have been around here have been responsible and polite. Could some teen drive recklessly on the MMP? Of course, but I would bet money on it being an old drunk person running into you in their golf cart and not a teen. If you live north of 44 you are way overestimating the risk and the risk is pretty low even south of 44.

- Under 18 must have a valid learner's permit (or license but a permit is sufficient)
- Over 18 must have a valid government-issued photographic ID (a license is not required)

Nowhere does the statute require an adult be present.

Are "MMP's" regarded as roads under the statute?

Probably yet another statute that will seldom if ever be enforced until too late.

In other places, 10 year olds take city buses and ride on subways unattended. I'm sure that they can handle walking on a MMP, although I'm not sure why they would be interested in going outside of Middleton anyways.

I took a very enjoyable golf cart ride today - drove down to Dabney to take progress photos for a friend who is building a home down there, but still lives up North. What a scenic area Lake Denham/Dabney is - looking forward to taking advantage of the nature and walking trails there!

After that I took the recently-opened Bexley Bridge golf cart path over the turnpike and all the way to Middleton. You sure get a different perspective of the area from a golf cart. This area is mammoth - so much earth movement and construction going on for miles and miles - it’s easy to see how Brownwood will be “the middle” of TV in a few years. Eastport is going to be great! I drove around the High School/Middle-Elementary School since they have been completed - more beautiful to me than some college campuses, and the sports and theatre facilities are stunning -those are some very lucky students that have the honor of attending there! Downtown Middleton is under full construction, and will be a welcomed addition for offices/restaurants/retail to our area - and accessible by golf cart!

Coming from the Village of Richmond, it was a bit of a hike to access this area via Bexley Bridge, but once the multi-modal paths are opened along Corbin Trail and Marsh Bend, it will make the commute to Eastport via golf cart quicker than driving up to LSL.

The next few years are going to be great will all the changes coming!

The MMPs are not golf cart lanes. Bikers, skaters and walkers can also use them. A naive group of teens who are unaware of the dangers of these paths can easily get struck. Or, cause an accident.

There is nothing wrong with someone voicing an opinion or concern. It is an OPEN FORUM. If you want others to follow your rules, start a blog.
