Going back to maiden name
It did it in the divorce agreement papers.

Wish I had kept my maiden name (65 years later)!

When I got a divorce in New Jersey I changed my name back to my maiden name. We had no children and it didn't make sense to keep his name. You need to do it as part of your divorce. Otherwise, you will have to pay to get it changed. That's what the lawyer suggested.

You can change your name to anything. It has to be done legally but you can change any part of all of your name

My X said why bother. She had my name twice as long as she had her maiden name.

Your birth name and name by marriage are both valid names. Legal documents such as Banks & Estate documents, usually require that you state aka (also known as) for court, police, bank & especially Estate documents. Many Divorce decrees do not include the request to ‘return’ a maiden name, but it is still a name you were given by birth. I wouldn’t waste money trying to delete either name. I would be consistent in using a particular name.
