jet, I just quickly read your past posts and they all seem so reasonable and you seem like such a nice person. I don't own a dog either but I like them very much. And I think they bring something important to a lot of seniors. I am not worried about their germs or their biting me.


Oh jet, How can you not feel all good about a little furry like this?

OK as a past owner of several dogs we at one time had a very large 140 pound Belgian Shepherd. (Trained to serve and protect). My father-in-law would never come to our house as long as we have owned that dog. He finally admitted he was attacked by a German Shepherd and basically had life-threatening issues. Did he hate all dogs, yes that I respect . So as long as we had a dog in our house he never came to our house, and that was OK. I do understand why some people do not like dogs and I have no issues with that. No matter how we think our pets are cute and cuddly there will be somebody who has a great fear.

That is very sad and very awful and very understandable .. However, those who have a reasonable fear, probably know that not many people have that fear, and those people deserve happiness too. We bow too much to the problems and expectations of the FEW in this day and age. We must always be compassionate, but not lose our sense of reason and proportion.

One interesting fact about this paganism….. the amount spent on non-necessities worldwide. Let’s put aside spending on necessary things such as food and medicine. Of those things that are not necessities, or superfluous things, the greatest amount is spent on pets. The most unnecessary spending is made on pets. Pets are idolized. That may be true of some people, even a lot of people, but not all people. I find the comfort of a small animal for older folks a good thing. Again what we spend our money on is a matter of our personal values. I think you may be painting with too broad a brush on this.


There are many who carefully share their not much with their pets and many who spend a lot on their pets ...very much the way they did their children. But it is their money to spend and unless they stole it, we have no right to say what they do with it.
