It sounds strange for a no pedestrian sign in the villages.

I am sure it just means no walking at some of the gates because of a safety issue. I had heard before that some of the gates had some difficulty with the views of traffic being obscured in some way. Surely that would mean it would be doubly dangerous to walk in that area.

I'm sorry maybe I am dense but I still don't understand. Are you saying you can't walk in front of the gate like across the road in front of the gate? OR you can't walk out of the village pass the gate? The former makes sense for safety reasons, the latter I am sorry but is not sensible. ???

You can't walk out of the village. In Mallory, you can by walking the cart path. In B@LS it appears you are not supposed to walk past the gate. There is no other way out except over private property.

Re: New gate signs

Sam,

I noticed a similar sign at the exit from Largo on Canal. It is a small rectangular sign...something to the effect

"Gate closes after each vehicle | No Pedestrians"

and is certainly meant for safety. Of course, at this location, there is a sidewalk on the opposite side of the street where pedestrians should be.

For B@LS, I can see how it is different...question though, the property walking around the gate in the grass....is that common area or is it an individual's yard?

Of course, you could try the route to call the CDD office and inquire as to expected procedure for this location. Perhaps, they approved a one size fits all sign solution and no one realized that there are exceptions.

Yes I agree, I would call for clarification. That just doesn't make sense. It sounds stupid but maybe they are saying you can't walk though the gate? I have seen dumber signs as warnings due to liability. ???

Yes, that could be it. Like the people that walk up to a drive-up window at a bank or pharmacy. I've seen that too. :dontknow:

Re: New gate signs

I really don't care about the signs. I have no intention of walking out of here anyway. I know some people do though. If there was an emergency and I really needed to walk out, I'd walk out. As it is, I am probably the farthest from the gate and have plenty of walking room inside the village.

I was in TV in June on Lifestyle Preview and did not rent a golf cart this trip. I stayed in Caroline. I wanted to walk to Sweet Bays which is very close. I had to walk on the golf cart path and under the tunnel because there are no sidewalks and it is too dangerous to walk in the rotary. I wondered if pedestrians are permitted to walk in the golf cart paths. Is this what you are referring to?

Kit asks a question I'm curious about also; can pedestrians safely walk on the golf cart paths or will the golf cart drivers beep at them in anger? Remember, I've never visited TV and am not familiar with the layout ::)

Thanks for asking this question, ConeyIsBabe. That's something many of us wannabees need to know. I'll be interested in hearing an answer to your inquiry. Thanks, again, for a great question.

This is for those that asked about walking on golf cart paths. I walk almost every day, through neighborhoods, but mostly on the golf cart paths. I would say 99.99% of golf cart drivers are very courteous. Most go out of their way to give me space. Then again I am a courteous walker; I walk the correct direction (towards traffic) and hug the side of the path. I always feel very safe. I must admit I do not walk through the tunnels. When I want/need to get to the other side of a street I cross very carefully.

I, for one, wouldn't walk on a cart path unless it was the only available path and then I would be ready to jump out of the way when a cart came by.

Re: New gate signs

The so called "golf cart paths" are not really golf cart paths . They are multi modal paths. They are for golf carts, pedestrians (with and without dogs), incline skaters , bicycles and even small motor scooters. The real golf cart paths are on the golf courses.
Pedestrians should walk facing golf cart traffic for their own safety.
The problem is, a lot of golf cart drivers think they are for their use only and some in tend to "brush" pedestrians. As a walker, I avoid them. Plenty of places to walk without utilizing the paths.
By the way, speaking of bicyclists, for you auto drivers, Florida law says you must pass bikes leaving 3 feet of space between your car and the cyclist. Brushing a cyclist is not only dangerous but can be expensive.

Almost every trip I've made along the Buena Vista pathway in the last month or more, I've seen many walkers, including one who must walk a gazillion miles a day! I find no problem with walkers coming at me on this path. Going with my flow on the same side is, on the other hand, a no-no!

I should point out, I think, for those who aren't here yet, that the paths south of CR466 are almost twice as wide as those north of CR466. I would feel much less comfortable about walkers "up north!"

Re: New gate signs

It's my understanding that the golf cart paths are really "Recreational Paths". That's what the signs say. So yes, walkers, bicycles, skaters, etc. are able to use them. If you'll notice, all the paths use the signage of Recreational Paths, at least south they do. i.e. Buena Vista Recreational Path. I've seen many people walking and bicycling.
