Read the local ordinance and contact your local Representative. You need documentation, preferably from a professional who can testify if needed.

The ordinance for exterior noise, M.G.L. Chapter 111, Section 142A-M, reads as follows:

A noise source will be considered to be violating the Department’s noise regulation (310 CMR 7.10) if the source:

1. Increases the broadband sound level by more than 10dB(A) above ambient, or

2. Produce a “puretone” condition – when any octave band center frequency sound pressure level exceeds the two adjacent center frequency sound pressure levels by 3 decibels or more.

These criteria are measured both at the property line and at the nearest inhabited residence. “Ambient” is defined as the background A-weighted sound level that is exceeded 90% of the time, measured during equipment operating hours. “Ambient” may also be established by other means with consent of the Department.

In 1966 I had just come home for a break from Vietnam , some of the neighborhood mob guys took me along to see Sinatra in Vegas . I was introduced to him later at a large party by one of the guys, he told Frank, Charlie is back from Vietnam and heading back again . He shook my hand and I told him we had the same birthday December 12, so we took a picture and he signed it, Frank and Charlie the birthday boys . I got good use out of that picture, I would pull out my wallet in some bar or airport while talking to some woman and kind of accidentally let her see it and they would say OMG you know Frank and I’d say ,well he calls me sometimes lol

Great story. Thanks.

Is the complaint here the volume of the music as it sures seems as if many of you have a problem with the genre. If you are complaining in large part because it is the most successful style of music for the last 25 years, get off my lawn. Think hard about why this is bothering you so much. If it were Sinatra or the Beatles would you feel differently?

Sumter County has a noise ordinance which was toughened in 2016

If you read the Sumter code it only applies to unincorporated residential areas of the county. What is the zoning at the Hobby Room?

Yes, the complaint is because of the extreme noise, and the timing of the noise - after midnight!

It is a nuisance and actionable. People are entitled to peaceful enjoyment of their residence. Get lawyers involved if you want quiet.

I suggest everyone get a decibel app to record the noise level to be used as evidence.

It would be beneficial if comments had citations to the law.

Property law gives a land owner the right to the full use, and enjoyment of his property, without any substantial interference from others, under reasonable circumstances.. If a defendant hosts an unreasonably loud party which disturbs the defendants sleep, the defendant has acted negligently and created a nuisance. The plaintiff’s comforts were violated by excessively loud noise due to the lack of the defendant to use proper care to prevent this from happening.

Breech of Peace / Disturbing the Peace is a much broader application and can apply at any time of the day, under a variety of circumstances, well outside of codified county 'noise ordinances'. which often simply stipulate hours/times permitted for industrial, agricultural, manufacturing noise or similar.

Deep bass or loud AF music, traveling miles from the source, done at midnight for hours on end, more than once, would well exceed permissible allowances in most any jurisdiction...it wouldn't matter to most people (or the law) if that intrusion was by way of "Snoop dog", "Def Leopard" or the "Beatles".
This being especially inconsiderate to anyone who may have to get sleep for work in the morning, have noise sensitivity...or dare I say it; to simply enjoy their quiet evening without being forcibly subjected to someone else choice party music of any gene.

Even if it were Sinatra, I would not want it blasting at 2:00 in the morning. BTW..... I HATE, HATE, HATE rap crap.

Stu from NYC 10-24-2022 08:51 PM

Do not care for rap but music should not be forced on others

Babubhat 10-25-2022 04:58 AM

Is someone going to take action? Talk is not the solution

Bilyclub 10-25-2022 06:18 AM

If they are inside of a building the sound shouldn't be carrying that far. Sounds like they are doing things outside which might be breaking some other ordinance.

BigSteph 10-25-2022 11:26 AM

I've never heard a bass-beat backtrack on a Sinatra song -- I could be wrong, I've not listened to his whole catalog.

Rather than say hate, I just say this; I cannot listen to any music where if I sang along to the lyrics, I could be positioning myself for injury, death, cancellation, etc.

Seriously, take most songs, print the lyrics and go to, say, the tax collector's office or the circuit court lobby and start singing the lyrics. You will surely get weird looks on all styles of music, but sing the rap songs and see what happens.

Then Go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in her curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like on a-Jupiter and Mars

'Cause we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Now a rap song;

Beat it up, nxxxxx, catch a charge
Extra large and extra hard
Put this pxxxxx right in your face
Swipe your nose like a credit card
Hop on top, I wanna ride
I do a Kegel while it's inside
Spit in my mouth, look in my eyes
This pxxxx is wet, come take a dive
Tie me up like I'm surprised
Let's role play, I'll wear a disguise
I want you to park that big Mack Truck
Right in this little garage
Make it cream, make me scream
Out in public, make a scene
I don't cook, I don't clean
But let me tell you how I got this ring

Just sayin'

You should return the favor to them when they are trying to sleep during the daylight hours.

I think they are on the wrong post. He is complaining about people on his lawn.
