I stopped ready this site because it really went over the top. Civil and kind is so nice and remember we are all entitled to our own opinion. Thanks for the notice

As you set this up, I hope you'll give some guidance on how we can discuss current events and news WITHOUT mentioning politics? I have a hard time imagining that, somehow. I tend to agree with whoever it was who suggested creating an area where political discussions ARE allowed (apparently there used to be such a thing? I'm relatively new here). Though personal attacks/name-calling should still be disallowed, of course. Personally, I'd love a space to CIVILLY discuss political issues with my neighbors. If that's even possible these days?

Thank you, moderators, for what you do here! I'm sure it's a frustrating and thankless task much of the time.

It would be nice if the new sub-forum posts would not show up when "Forum New Posts" is selected.

Thank you so very much. I can come back to read now as I had stopped coming to the site because of the nastiness. :clap2:

Well Said

While spirited discussions will surely abound in the coming months of the November elections and will be more easily identified as political, what about the grayer areas? Where will you draw the line? A discussion of the 25% property tax increase is most certainly of profound interest to Villages residents and Sumter county alike, it easily shifts to a discussion of those making the decisions and that pending election, where will you draw the line?

Since the posting of this thread you have had no teeth, this post https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...people-307816/ was clearly and purely political and offensive in nature and yet was allowed to fester for 90 posts. A quick review of the threads and posts on may of the forums show a great many clearly laced with political tones and derogatory comments. Where is the line to be drawn on these? When will this line be like a knife at the throat of liberty?

Obviously this website is free to pluck and purn its branches as it sees fit. We can only hope they are not too aggressive as to kill the tree.

I not only agree with your post it was so well said no one knows your political party. Good job!

I hope when people see a topic or comment that breaks site rules, they use the report feature to bring it to the mods' attention. They can't be everywhere and see everything.

If technically possible, I'll add my request to omit the new current events forum from the "Forum New Posts" results.

I very much thank you for your statement. I would love to go to this forum for advice, suggestions and just topics. No politics please, everyone thinks different that is their right and this is for the forum for disagreements. Love the great work you and your staff do for us. Thanks a million

And thank you for addressing this issue.

The post you quoted would be ok...it’s not directed at any individuals, doesn’t mention partisan parties or political names, and is expressing an opinion about a general subject. It does touch a little on publicly criticizing moderator actions, but, is ok within the context of this thread.

For the past couple of months (seems like more) the opening page of TOTV has been looking like a political propaganda leaflet drop.

Like some others here, I have been ready to give up posting — or even looking in — hard habit for me to break — just look at that join date. EEK!

Answer would be appreciated.

TOTV is a private commercial business with no connection to the developer or ************* (whoever that is)

Current Events forum. It deals with current events but the subject matter is questionable and may be considered political. Please let me know if I would be stepping over the line with this comment. Thank you........

I saw on the news on TV that people who will be attending the rally in Tulsa will be given masks and hand sanitizer. That makes me feel a bit better about the massive crowd congregating with no social distancing in an indoor venue.

Good question/example....theoretically the topic is fine...about following proper precautions to prevent spread of Covid in a large indoor setting, but, we all know the thread would be derailed into political arguments in no time.
