I'm just musing, but Florida (and the majority of other states) have laws against knowingly engaging in behavior that might transmit STDs.

From criminaldefenselawyer.com: There are several Florida criminal laws that criminalize specific types of conduct engaged in by people with sexually transmitted diseases. It’s important to note that these crimes do not require that a person with a sexually transmitted disease actually infect someone else. Engaging in the prohibited activity, even if that activity does not lead to the transmission of a disease, is enough to commit a crime.

Should it come to that, enacting similar COVID-related legislation would certainly be doable. At this stage, proving that people knew they were infected would be quite problematic, and the question of acquired immunity is still up in the air.

Just contemplating the possibilities. I honestly doubt Florida legislators would view such a law favorably, although other states might.

Tired of it all

Is anyone as sick of these stories as I am? No masks, no social distancing, yada, yada, yada. Yes, we KNOW there are people not wearing masks. We KNOW people are not maintaining their distance. We KNOW people are gathering where they shouldn't. It's their funeral, not yours. We KNOW not everyone is is abiding by the law. So What!!! Stay away from them. Try to focus on some positive things like....what a beautiful day we have. Be happy to be living in America and not some third world country. Be happy that you are free and ABLE to complain about things without repercussions. I look for the good and I don't dwell on the bad. Let's give the complaints a rest, because, in the end, there is really NOTHING you can do about it.

Absolutely, and speaking for myself, I suggest they behave in such a way that others can live in the first place!

I guess we are going back to the middle ages where barbers are acting as physicians. Of course the average age back then was only 30-35.

I hope so

Back to the original question

To answer this question, please refer to frla.org. Each county has specific rules. As of 6 May,

“Outside seating allowed, 25% capacity inside dinning rooms with social distancing. No bar seating.”

In addition general guidelines are provided:
“Do not allow guests to congregate in waiting areas or bar areas. Design a process to ensure guest separation while waiting to be seated that can include floor markings, outdoor distancing, waiting in cars, etc. Consider an exit from the facility separate from the entrance.”

While there are many opinions on social media, restaurants must follow governing Executive Orders. Violations of governing laws can be reported to your local sheriff as well as Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulations. However, it is important to understand the difference between a statute and a guideline. Do the research.

None of these stats will provide the whole picture until there is 100% testing. That being said, Sweden has used the herd theory and their death rate is pretty high for those infected. Maybe a year from now it will balance out, but right now it's not looking good, especially when compared with their neighbors.

Unfortunately, with the current state of this world, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. There will always be Monday morning Quarterbacks to stir the pot, regardless of the policy followed.

The only guarantee is that when this is over, there will be someone (on either side) patting themselves on the back, and spouting how they were right. Until then, we are free to do what we feel is the right thing to do. Only time will tell, no sense dying from an ulcer trying to change peoples minds. :)

Death rate per infected is not really a good way to judge success of lockdown vs herd approach. 50% of Sweden's deaths have occurred in nursing homes. In the USA its more like 1 in 4. Nursing homes have the people most likely to die, so the percentage of deaths to infected is skewed by this.

Sweden's death rate per million is a lot lower than UK, Italy, Spain, France etc They all had lockdowns too.

You think it's bad on a message board, you ought to hear the calls coming in to Community watch. People are literally sitting in their houses monitoring the web cams at the squares and speed dialing CW to report people who aren't far enough apart.
