I just wonder WHO does not know this is a LARGE, HUGE place....has more in common with a "normal" city than a retirement community.

As a result we have a mix of people........I have posted often about the need to label everyone or make the constant STEREOTYPE threads and posts. I do not understand it at all.

I simply question the motive to keep on bringing up other people either from the news, or folks complying with the law and registering as a sex offender.

I make friends easy and with no judgement except on what they say or do......never knew that was a bad thing.

You should look at the individual in cases like this. There are some badly drafted laws involved with these sexual crimes registration lists. And there are people as one poster wrote that use accusations of sexual assault as weapons in divorce, probate and any other case where $$$ in involved.

Try to find out what that neighbor is on a list like this.

I had a client while in law school who was the first man to be convicted of raping his wife in the state of Minnesota. A real scumbag IMHO and the other prisoners at that particular Minnesota Correctional Facility seemed to think they same from their interactions with the man when I was in that prison interviewing this man. The judge actually chewed me out for just representing this man as so many MN women seemed to really hate this man. You take what cases come in when a law student. You do not get a choice on whom you represent.

But I can see some nefarious lawyer bringing up a false rape charge in a bad divorce case. I looked at my client's file and it was anything but made up. Lots of physical evidence against him. It was a very violent rape, in other words.

Some of the forty or so prisoners I, or one of my law students, represented were good people who just made bad decisions. I can see some 19 year old falling in love with a 17 year old and that man being prosecuted if the parents in question had problems with their kids' dating of some kind. In some states if this 19 year old were convicted of Statutory Rape he might be on a sexual offender list. Mapped: Sex offender registry laws on statutory rape, public urination, and prostitution.

While what you say is true ….it is not relevant. Sex offenders will probably repeat the act again in their lifetime since it is a "sickness" as someone else pointed out (documented and the cause of "special treatment for sex offenders). Drug users (and other criminals) usually harm themselves and not others. Yes, I know they also commit crime to pay for the drugs, etc.


When a sex offender commits the crime a second time a child
is preyed on and their life is forever changed. The risk is too great for me to feel comfortable near a registered offender when my grandkids are around.

BTW, I do think there needs to be a distinction made in determining who must register - forever - as a sex offender. Say a 18 YO boy that had consensual sex with a 14 yo girl should be treated differently than a male adult that preyed on a 8 YO girl.

I have just finished a book by the famous mystery writer Jonathan Kellerman who is also a child psychologist who practiced for many years at the best known hospital in LA...I can't think of it...Cedars Sinai? This book is not fiction but he is writing on whether there really are kids who cannot change from their path to harm others. This is a sort of textbook, and it was written more than ten years ago, but it does discuss I think the first school shooting. He seems to think that some people cannot be changed, or rehabilitated and that there is only one path for the innocent people and it is to keep these kids locked up. He of course being a very fair and intelligent person does not make "blanket" statements like I just did, and he discusses many forms of mental illness and of course many mentally ill people CAN and are helped with therapy and medication, but some cannot be helped he thinks. I have been thinking so too. As a college student back in the 60's we were schooled in "behavioral modification" and "redirection" and "positive self image". Now I think that most of us are stuck with the personality we are born with and really can't be altered too much in any direction.
