Well without "marketing", none of us would be here, and without "marketing", none of us would ever have bought our previous homes from a real estate agent....nor even a for-sale-by-owner because they took out an ad in the newspaper or put a sign in the front yard. That's marketing too.

It would be pretty dumb to sink tens/hundreds of millions of dollars into developing and building homes and commercial properties, and then not "market" them.

The only problem with that marketing would be if the consumer did not actually GET what the marketers said they would get.

Here, we get what they say we're offered and much more. Like tens of thousands of people from every state who are interested in getting to know new people, are mature, and aren't full of themselves.

Hmmmm; Maybe THIS is why he was reluctant to post! Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make it right to blast them. He didn't blast you he just stated his opinion. By the way, he didn't make his marketing post until he was challenged that TV did not do much marketing. IMHO this kind of disagreeable behavior is what is wrong with our politics today -- instead of agreeing to disagree with the opinion and the person making the opinion they must be attacked. I am one who loves the lifestyle and will be buying in TV as soon as I sell in MO., but I am sure there are many for whom it is a bad fit.

Excellent post. I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the personal attacks on people who post with different opinions.

I get how anybody who is looking forward to moving here( I did too) or is

Gracie was questioning whether TV spends any money on marketing. Larry Wilson, was attempting to pleasantly offer some examples of marketing promotions that wouldn't be evident to most of us. For his post, his character has been criticized. IMHO, Everyone on this website should be able to offer their opinion without being personally criticized.

BobKat1 10-25-2011 12:38 PM

I look in on a couple of forums and from what I can tell, this kind of reaction is normal. Generally, folks who participate are fans of and enthusiastic about the topic of the forum (TV in this case). So someone with a view or opinion different from the majority stands out and the opinion isn't shared by most people. That probably won't change, just the nature of the thing.

!

angiefox: I was never looking for Shangri-La nor do I believe such a place exists. It is in my humble opinion "very misplaced" to raise one's expectations to that level whether it is toward a person place or thing...think of the high expectations concerning Obama.

I also read many forums and you are right, particularly with sports forums. However, I still believe that such mean-spirited, arrogant posts should not be tolerated by forum members. Differences of opinion can co-exist without obvious personal attacks.

I am an advocate of forum posters abandoning anonymity and using their given names. Maybe removing the cloak of invisibility would restore integrity. If not, then at least the lack of anonymity would force personal accountability.

Just my opinion, Steve Massy (indydealmaker)

graciegirl 10-25-2011 01:31 PM

Rubicon. You are a very nice person indeed.

Everytime that I read that you are not happy here Rubicon, it makes me sad. You are a fair, kind person and one that always says things in a reasonable way.

We sold our house in Hadley and friends have sold their homes here easily and quickly. If you would want to sell it probably wouldn't be hard to get rid of your house. I guess I just relearned that the greater expense is moving and getting another house habitable. Not anything to sneeze at to be sure. Costly and stressful to be sure.

I will wish you happy, Rubicon and wish it very sincerely

. And my glasses aren't rose colored Weissenbach, I have just stumbled across a small group of people who like me and who I like back. Add in the art lessons and the classical music presentations and the myriad of places to eat and drink with friends and the blue skys and pretty tropical birds and no snow....I'm good.

Really good.

Oh... and how I agree with this post. Can we all stop this? I have asked the Administrator to please close this post but he and the Moderators are not on right now. None of this has anything to do with the post, adds nothing to this post in any way at all. It is nothing more then people attacking each other.

This is my thread and if you read my posts on this thread the only thing I asked is that you be nice to one another!

I don't give a rats ass what you think of me... KNOCK IT OFF!!! YOU ARE MAKING ASSES OF YOURSELF.

And now... so have I.

Have a great day!

graciegirl 10-25-2011 01:56 PM

Dear administrators...close this thread.

WOW Gracie, I don't remember saying anything about you, specifically, having rose colored glasses. If I did, I apologize! I think you are a gracious and honest person who happens to be very enthusiastic about TV, which is fine. I'm sorry if anything I said offended you.

This may force us to stay in California until February so we can watch Monday Night Football at a respectable time; but then we would miss our daily pickleball games at 8 AM. Nothing but problems here in paradise!

Bogie.

You have never once said anything that I didn't agree with. You are calm, cool and collected and always right.

Are you sure you aren't my husband with another screen name?

Angie, you are a funny woman! That is one of my favorite expressions. A Rat's @SS. I love it.

Mudder 10-25-2011 04:00 PM

It wasn't what LarryWilson said, it was how he said it,"as a CEO blah, blah, blah". We don't care that he was a CEO, there are many ex CEO's here and most of them don't need to remind people who they were, all we care about is are you fun to play golf, tennis, pickleball, dance, etc....with.

redwitch 10-25-2011 04:10 PM

Angie asked a very reasonable question. In the main, she got replies from those who love TV and see very little, if any, wrong with it. A couple of us mentioned some minuses, but really nothing major. Poor Rubicon is stuck here and he truly has my sympathies (honest, I'm not being in the least bit sarcastic -- no one should be forced to live somewhere they're not happy).

In between, this thread has gone off the track a few times mostly in fun. Then, all of a sudden someone got slammed, accused of having their own agenda, basically accused of what? trying to show off? brag?, etc. I guess he could have made the examples of how TV was in fact still marketing without being a CEO, but would we have given credence to the fact that TV offered him a free lifestyle visit otherwise? Sometimes our position or former position in life is given as a means of validating what we are saying. Personally, I think this was the case here.

So, I'm with Angie. It is time to close this thread. Her question has been asked and answered to a small degree. The odds of getting more answers are slim. Regardless, could we please stop the criticizing of another member here?

Moderator 10-25-2011 04:27 PM

At the request of the OP and several others, this thread will be closed at least temporarily pending admin review.

Please discuss the posts and not the posters and try to stay on topic.
