I've got the best of both worlds,living in a terrific city in Kentucky and paradise in TV.I never pull into TV without a huge smile on my face.My girlfriend loves TV and would spend every day of the rest of her life in our village home , with all her new friends.I'm sorry, but if you can't be happy in TV with everything it has to offer, that's a YOU problem, and only YOU can fix it.

TV offered beautiful surroundings, fewer worries about crimes, the opportunity to make more friends and something I really missed...the chance to take "back roads" around the state. Did I mention I really don't like freeways... ;)

At prior home, lots of traffic, noise from planes, helicopters (Marine Corp base not far away) sirens (fire station nearby) and a constant din that you didn't really recognize until it stopped (on 9/11) made TV seem extremely quiet. Now, even with all the cars and trucks, (Morse is behind my house) it's not nearly as noisy here for us....maybe that's why hubby and I aren't particularly bothered.

We are leaving because of the SNOW and the cost of living! But after seeing TV... I think I would move to TV anyway! :thumbup:

[QUOTE=rubicon;409937]angiefox I would have left TV one year after my arrival. The reasons are not personal or family related but have to do with TV. TV sells a lifestyle but that lifestyle can be practiced anywhere . I won't go any futher because it will only upset some residents.

Rubicon I always find your posts reasonable and interesting, and have noted that you are not totally happy in TV, and respect that. The only exception I would take with this post is that the "lifestyle can be practiced anywhere". The Villages lifestyle may be practiced other places, though I have never been to any of them, but most certainly not "anywhere". Where I currently live there is no opportunity to go dancing or enjoy live entertainment once a week, much less every night, I have two golf courses which are each 20 minutes away, and no decent resturaunts or shopping without traveling a half hour or more. Now, there are other things I enjoy about where I live, and am not complaining, but the TV lifestyle cannot be replocated here in any way.

I like Tv but I am sooooo homesick.

I think other reasons may be;

They are away from family and maybe new grandchildren that have been born since they moved here.

YEPPERS :cryin2:I agree with the missing the grandkids big time. Every time one of them asks me why we moved I couls almost cry.

They are in some denial about aging or in some difficult financial situation due to the very bad economic situation right now and feel trapped.

NOPERS: We wouldn't be any better off at home so "what the hey" We certainly would not be any younger at home. I AM a bit worried that I have left a town with top notch docs and come to an area that does not have that level of expertise.

They aren't used to NOT having a say in local government decisions. AND the CDD form of government is NOT democratic.
NOPERS: Unless you happened to be one particulay party it was the same back home.

They are somewhat depressed as many seniors are due to chemical brain changes.
:loco::loco:
:loco::loco: SO... what's the question?

They do not like the conversative political atmosphere that is predominant here.
:crap2: Come on Redwitch I will join you in this.

They are annoyed that the Morse family are so financially successful in these poor economic times. After all they did sell us some cheap land in the middle of Florida. :$::lipsrsealed::wave:

COME ON: Put on your big girl/boy panties and deal with this. This is a very symbiotic relationship. We make them rich, they make us Happy.:sing:

They have always been unhappy.

BUMP

They think acting happy with everything is not realistic and responsible. Pointing out negatives is being a good citizen.

Being happy with everything is not realistic or responsible, but I never feel I am living in hell, that is for sure.

None of the above and they are going to tell us what it is.

Since I started working I don't get to do as many Village things and that makes me very sad. But, it is up to me to deal with it...or quit.

SALYBOW 10-24-2011 06:40 PM

I will tell you why

(OK... that doesn't apply in Chicago)

But, I doubt that any of those reasons apply to the people who are unhappy. and as of yet, none of them have come on to say why they don't move.

I'm not saying "like it or leave it" but I am curious. I know there are a lot of places that you can buy a better home then TV. So.... Why do they stay?

I stay here because I want to live with my husband and he loves it here. Plus my kids are so spread out there is no better place to go.

I expect the financial anxiety brought to us by todays economic environment makes many folks anxious, upset or angry. It is difficult seeing your nest egg get scrambled by forces not under ones control. The Villages did promiss a life style, but no one promised life was going to be easy...

I'm not sure who said this but it makes sense to me.

"I know a few people who left soon after moving here and they seem to fall into two categories. The first are those used to living in uncrowded areas with a lot of land and cannot cope with the density of homes here. The others fall into two sub categories. Those who want every home to look the same and cannot tolerate even the slightest infraction of the rules like placing a gnome on your lawn. The other sub category goes to the other extreme and wants to be able to paint their home purple if they want, smoke anywhere they wish, blast a radio at the pool, and pretty much do as they please like they did in the last place they lived in."

Sandy and I remember going to an open house in TV for a resale home that was fairly new. We asked the realtor why the owner was selling (always inquisitive!). She explained that the gentleman (single) really missed the fishing back in CO as well as being much closer to his daughter...........so he was heading back there! Can't validate the story but it's certainly plausible!

I'd have to imagine missing family is a big pull for some to leave TV.

Bill :)

We went to an open house at a nearly new Lantana. The owners were trying to sell it themselves and they were there. They had bought the home with the expectation that his mother was going to live with them and help pay for the home. She died before moving in and they either couldn't afford it or didn't want such a big home. They were buying a patio villa. Another woman was trying to sell her relatively new Bridgeport after getting a divorce and she too was buying a patio villa. There are 7 million stories in the naked city.

I've read this post from beginning to end and now I'm even confused. This is my post and I forgot what it was about. I had to go back to the OP to see what I was posting about. Please understand that...

This is NOT a love it or leave it post.

This is NOT a why did they leave post.

But if that's what everyone wants to discuss.... Carry on. :smiley:

Just be nice....

Hate TV Because:

Having lived most of my adult life in the SF Bay Area, Monday Night Football started at 5:30 PM. My wife just commented that it was nearly 8:30 and Monday Night Football will start soon but she can't stay up past 9:00 and will miss it again. If our kids were around they would stay up with me but they are long gone and it's just us two who want to watch Monday Night Football and she doesn't stay up late.

This may force us to stay in California until February so we can watch Monday Night Football at a respectable time; but then we would miss our daily pickleball games at 8 AM. Nothing but problems here in paradise!

Pooh

We are leaving California for the same reasons as yours. But I'm going to miss my kid and grandkids terribly. I will be returning frequently to spoil them rotten.

Last week there was a brutal mass killing right down the street from where I live. My podiatrist and physical therapist have their business upstairs from the hair salon that 8 people perished. Southern California is so expensive, the homeless are abundant, I can feel a tightness in people. People are hurting.

We will be in TV in 3 weeks to look for a home, we are so excited about this new adventure. My Dad has lived in the TV for five years, he's 82. He loves everything the community has to offer. His wife passed away December of last year, she received wonderful medical treatment and the neighbors were so kind to her and my Dad. The sense of community has brought richness to my family. With that said, we are looking forward to The Villages. My political opinions will be kept closed. Even here in California I don't discuss politics, it makes for a long sticky golf game.

I'm pretty happy here in California and I think I'll be happy in Florida, it's all about my perception and attitude.

Also, I need to warn the boys, I'm part of the POSSE and I have a serious water cannon I'm bringing from California. :crap2:

Here we come!!!!:loco::loco::loco:

I HATE the conservativeness here, the unwillingness to hear another side to an argument. It goes against everything I've ever believed. I really don't understand preventing a politician coming into an area because they have a different viewpoint. I was taught that all views should be heard and understood to the best of my ability. I dislike the way I see the developer nickel and dime newcomers (once you've been here awhile, you know where to go for what). Those are my two major peeves.

All of that being said, I truly like TV and I'm glad I landed here. I've found a very comfortable way of life, a decent business, wonderful friends and great activities. TV is not my Shangri-La (hope you meant that rather than Shanghai lol) although we all know it is Gracie's, but it is a very good community with far more pluses than minuses.

I'm with you Red. I have many friends here in TV, and I love the activities. For me there are certainly pluses and minuses, but the pluses outweigh the negatives. Because someone is willing to voice their concerns about changes they'd like to see, doesn't mean they are unhappy, it means they are honest people who are trying to educate others who might be considering buying and want to give them the truth about the lifestyle, not the sales pitch they'll hear from the Villages salespeople. The first step in implementing change is admitting there is a problem. We've had discussions on this forum about the problems that do exist, and educating and informing people will hopefully make them aware, and will lead to changes which will benefit our community in the long run.

Crime is definitely a factor in moving away from many places...even rural ones (sometimes rural is worse, because police and sheriff can be so far away that the long response time renders them useless).

While I know there is some crime here in TV, I feel much safer being amongst so many neighbors close by in our courtyard villas. Chances are, all the dogs would start barking if somebody tried to break in. Almost everyone in our CYV neighborhood has a dog, and their owners are nice and caring. We look out for each other. There's a lot to be said about that!

When I left work one year ago, I thought being home everyday would be just wonderful. No more getting up at 5am to get ready for work, no more cleaning off the snow in the driveway so I could get to work, only to sit in traffic on the interstate for a hour. I have since realized that, after a visit to The Villages, that I can no longer just sit and stare out a window all day. I really have missed the human contact and the dicipline that my work provided for 30 years. If the Villages is crowded in the winter months, so what? If the Villages housing is a little expensive, so what! If there is an issue or something about the Villages I don't care for, so what! Overall, I cannot find an area that is so well planned, and developed so beautifully as is The Villages.:wave:
