Report says they were using the attic space over the garage as a methlab and actually cooking it up there! I'm surprised they did not blow the place up.

Cleaning up Former Methamphetamine Labs

Wow. You're right, that home is a goner. And if it was the actual lab site, someone might come along and buy it, thinking it's a good deal, and not knowing why. Who would suspect a house in The Villages to be a meth lab?

Unless someone came along and alerted the buyers, they probably wouldn't think to check with the police.

I once saw a report about a couple with a child who bought a house that was used as a meth lab and after spending much $$$ renovating the house they couldn't understand why they were getting so sick all the time. It wasn't until they had spoken with neighbors that they discovered that the house had been used as a meth lab and it had permeated into the walls and all other surfaces. Needless to say they had to move out and they had no recourse with the bank who sold them the house (they bought a bank owned home). The bank denied knowing the history of the house.
So sad, this couple poured their heart and soul into renovations and could only return to the house with space type looking suits to protect themselves.
I hope if the house on Livingston Loop is rented or sold the history is made aware so no one gets sick.

I don't know anything about disclosure laws in Florida. What is legal and what is ethical may be two different things.

I hope the disclosure laws cover things like this here in Florida, but if they don't then I hope that change will happen.

All of the villagers who rent out their homes, especially for long periods of time need to do a lot of research on potential renters, just as anyone should, anywhere. Having folks like that inhabit your home could be disastrous.

Your memory of the report mentioned above is accurate as I've read numerous similar tales of woe. Buyer beware. However, do the realtors really divulge these things?? Makes you wonder.

Does anyone know what Village in The Villages that particular street is in?

Yes, it is sad..........also for the unsuspecting landlady.....who has to , I assume, live in the house.

I posted another link yesterday which lists all the components needed to make meth. Don't the pharmaacies down there get suspicious when these folks come in to buy the stuff to cook meth?

The street Livingston Loop is just south of Churchill Downs Rec Center in Lynnhaven.

Excellent.

I've always thought when watching these real estate shows where they buy a "foreclosure" or "short sale" for a very very low figure.......could it be possible that something could have been going on............such as mentioned above.

Also, although these short sales and foreclosures seem like a good deal, you are also buying a neighborhood. If anyone ever looks via an aerial view of some of the neighborhoods in places like Cape Coral, you see many abandoned looking properties intersperced with just weed filled land between............

(Certainly not just Cape Coral, Fl. but so many other places with dirty water in the pools, lack of pest control in the abandoned homes which once were beautiful, etc.)

Not to sound like a Villages "marketing person" but you are buying the lifestyle and the neighborhood.........as well as the house.

Again, buyer beware.

I don't know how it works elsewhere, but in OH it's up to the sellers/property owners to (paraphrasing) divulge anything with the property that would hurt the value of it. The sellers do that via a signed disclosure agreement which is handled via the realtor. If the realtor fails to make interested parties aware of that info, they'll be liable in some way, shape, or form on down the road if an issue crops up.

Bill :)

No. South of CR466 about 1 mile directly south of the Villages High School, Southern Trace Shopping Center and the Belvedere Library.

I live in Lynnhaven.
