That's not correct, the teller is clueless. Writing a check, you should be writing it to a person, however never say never. We are getting closer to where - no debit card - no nothing. Even my 95 yr old mother has had one for decades.

Typically, a joint account is one where either party can write a check against the account. So, why couldn't you just write another check on "her" account and withdraw the money? Unless you have a different type of joint account.

Same as my wife and mine. Never had any problems with a check written with "cash" at Wells Fargo. Butttt, we do have DEBIT cards. Carry them in a safety shield donated by Sumter County Sheriff Dept.

But, yet some banks allow adult kids empty parents bank account.

Only if the parent put them on the account.

if it was citizens, you don't need to write out a check, just fill out the checking withdrawal form available at the little desks as you walk in. they are blue/white. why waste a check when you don't have to?

Yep. Should raise a lot of flags if someone tries to empty an account from a joint account.

If she had made the check payable to you you could have cashed it with no problem.

A Married person cannot be a "Head of Household" pursuant to the IRS code.

She wasn't able to go along, so she wrote a signed check out from her checking acct.
for "cash", at the same bank and I had her ID along.

We don't want or own debit cards for many reasons.

I went to the teller, she said: " They can't cash the check because my wife wasn't present."
Even though I had my ID along, the head of the household and had my checking account at the same bank.

Must be "Homeland Security" at work.

I too do not have debit cards, don't want the added potential for someone to use a card at any place possible. What I do have is an ATM only card. Most banks will provide an ATM only card if you request it in place of a debit card. This way you can use the bank ATM with a pin code when you needed it but it can't go to the grocery or gas station and use it for things. Just keep your ATM cards in a lockbox at home and only take it out when you need it.

Why would you think it was ok? Of course you can’t cash someone else’s check wife or not.

Be kind to others, if for some reason your not feeling kind don’t post a negative response
