Most banks will provide an ATM only card if you request it in place of a debit card. This way you can use the bank ATM with a pin code when you needed it but it can't go to the grocery or gas station and use it for things. Just keep your ATM cards in a lockbox at home and only take it out when you need it.

I don't know about most banks, but Truist won't issue an ATM only card. Do you know which banks in The Villages area will?

Wife needed cash from her checking account from the same bank we both have our checking accounts at.

She wasn't able to go along, so she wrote a signed check out from her checking acct.
for "cash", at the same bank and I had her ID along.

We don't want or own debit cards for many reasons.

I went to the teller, she said: " They can't cash the check because my wife wasn't present."
Even though I had my ID along, the head of the household and had my checking account at the same bank.

:cry::(:oops:

Must be "Homeland Security" at work.

Having a debit card is no big deal if you only use it to withdraw cash from the bank and not in any retail store and keep it in a safe place where only the two of you know where it is. My husband and I both have our own checking accounts but both names are on both accounts, so no problem accessing either account. You can add her name to yours and she can add your name to hers.

We have one through Citizens. It is the same card as their debit card but they program it on request/demand to only work at the ATM. But as all things in life go.....if/when you get one here or somewhere else test it to make sure you can't use it at a store or gas station before that warm fuzzy feeling sets in.

Next time, have her make the check out to you. You could cash it with no problem. A check made out to cash is a bad idea. As long as the check has been signed, a check written out to cash can be cashed by anyone.

Rosie1950 03-05-2022 08:44 AM

This is all silly. Poster could have just deposited the check into his own account then withdraw the same amount. Don’t really see the need for 2 days worth of discussion.

Atm only

Not in the villages but you can go to penfed.com and that's what you'll get.
Excellent service too .

You’re probably right, because what if someone found this guys wife’s check made out for cash, which would be cash for anybody that found it. If they would of cashed it this guy & his wife would of been screaming bloody murder. It’s a built in safety for the bank & both people!

I had a PenFed account for years, but I recently closed it. The reason was, that their VISA credit card didn't immediately notify me when I made a transaction. It took several days. With my Truist VISA card, I am notified by email within seconds of making a transaction. Much better and safer.

Stop doing business with banks and go to a credit union. Suncoast Credit Union would have given you good service.

I have had an ATM only card from B of A for years. When they renew it the new card is inevitably a debit card . I call in and get that card canceled and get them to send me an ATM only card which they do.

If you think otherwise, there's know alternative.

Like my wife.
I always say "Yes Dear" (even though she's wrong once in awhile.)
