105% Increase, for NO changes in coverage, and NO claims. Yes, TOTAL SHOCKER!!
No doubt hurricanes have affected this!
Is this what has been happening to Home Owners Ins. in T.V. and or all FL??
What have others experienced for rate changes??
Thanks for your replies.

After having read all the previous posts, I thought you all would be interested in my little story. Have been in this house, a Camelia, since it was built in 2004. Insurance over the years has stayed around the $1200 - $1500 per year range. However, in 2021 it went to $1814, in 2022 the amount was $2186. Received this year's bill and it is ... wait for it ... $6630!!! No "free roof" and no claims since we've been here. Progressive insurance. Had ASI until Progressive took over in 2021. Will be shopping around, of course, after I calm down.

My Progressive homeowners policy (ASI) renewed 12/07/22 and my premium decreased $25. Something else must be going on.

Roofs, roofs, roofs.

10 year old roof. Until the "state" and law enforcement crack down on "free roofs" claims, you and all of us see higher premiums to pay for them. Anything 11 years old is considered a huge liability to insurers.

Allstate worse offender

I can provide an Allstate quote if you’re interested. We are insuring homes built in 2011 or newer. If interested call 954-437-9220 ext. 308 or email hrichardson4@allstate.com.

I have a 7 yr old house. Never a claim. Allstate raised my homeowners 32% after the first year. They stated rates haven’t been reset for 10 years and it won’t be that aggressive again. The next year they increased the premium 41%. I dropped them. Corrupt.

Probably more to do with roofing scams than hurricanes. Mine went up 90%.

These statements above don't add up. I see no license for insurance companies to steal in here. What am I missing? He opened up competition. Lovin our Govenor DeSantis! OP get a another quote.

Senate Bill 2D, signed by Governor DeSantis today, enacts pro-consumer measures to help alleviate rising insurance costs, increases insurance claim transparency, and cracks down on frivolous lawsuits which drive up costs for all Floridians. Specific provisions to stabilize the market include:

$2 billion in reinsurance relief through the Reinsurance to Assist Policy (RAP) program to benefit policyholders over the next two years.
Requires insurance companies to file a supplemental rate filing once enrolled in the program to provide relief to policyholders.
$150 million for the My Safe Florida Home Program to provide grants to Florida homeowners for hurricane retrofitting, making homes safer and more resistant to hurricane damage, which can result in premium discounts for those who participate in the program.
Prohibiting insurance companies from denying coverage solely based on the age of a roof if the roof is less than 15 years old or if the roof is determined to have at least 5 years of useful life remaining.
Requiring insurance companies to provide policyholders with a reasonable explanation if they deny or partially deny a claim and provides consumers with greater access to information during the claim adjustment process.
Creating a new standard for application of attorney fee multipliers which have been liberally applied, resulting in increased costs to consumers.
Limiting the assignment of attorney’s fees in property insurance cases, disincentivizing frivolous claims.

You're kidding, right? Nothing has changed. Look at all the people that have had their insurance almost doubled. This was predicted when the law was signed. The bill props up insurance companies solely so they will keep writing policies in Florida. There were no requirements that rates would go down. The lawmakers also set aside another $1 billion in our money as a pool that insurance companies could tap to bolster the industry . The legislation also reduces the risk that insurance companies will be sued by homeowners. These are all measures that benefit the insurance industry, not the Florida residents.

Loyalty increase

Looks like you could be a victim of what I call “loyalty increases”. I was a victim of that with Liberty Mutual a while back - before the “only pay for what you need” promo. Lol - I kept telling them I didn’t need their bells and whistles.

Anyway, you stay with an insurance company, and you have auto renewals, or even if you don’t, you figure inflation or whatever and just renew - and the increases start small and then get larger as the years go by. Finally, you get smacked in the face and when you get quotes from other companies you find you can get the same thing for much less money.

But when you get other quotes, make sure you compare carefully here. Deductibles, both roof and sinkhole can be drastically different. Good luck. It’s a big cat and mouse game. I tawt I saw a puddy cat…

We also have Progressive and have had it many years. We have only had one claim back in 2004 for the loss of our boat in a hurricane. Our insurance just went up 70% to $1900. And our home was built in 2012. The problem is not only hurricanes but false claims, hence many insurance companies are moving out of Florida!

All the scammers who got free roofs really didn't get them for free. They just spread the cost out to all the other people in The Villages, kind of like socialism. From the tone of your post, I am guessing you don't like paying for other people's roofs.

wpsabo 01-15-2023 12:03 PM

Just asking.....
And why did you get a new roof by only paying the amount of the deductible?
Just asking....
p.s. I have been using USAA for over 50 years. I have asked twice for a new roof, turned down both times.

RickyLee 01-15-2023 12:03 PM

Agreed, Thank You

Yep…and in his mind, the “right” to contribute to his campaign fund. hahaha

My Progressive premium increased by 6 percent to $880. It started at about $550, 6 years ago.

What was the original insurance company and what company did you switch to?
