I always enjoy hearing people complaining about dog owners not picking up their dog's poop from their lawn not realizing that we have numerous wild animals roaming our lawns from dusk till dawn every night.

Please pass the popcorn! This problem never goes away!
It's the old golden rule. |

No signs allowed in your yard.... but.... here's an idea, put out a Massey sign as in just sprayed for pesticides. The Villages has NO PROBLEM with tacky little lawn service signs which some (not all) have a no pet on grass due to harmful chemicals logo on them. Not only will people avoid your lawn... it may actually look like one cares about the well being of dogs.
Trained my dogs to use the commode and they flush it too. In my dreams... I do walk them beyond houses and use bags... the one is 12 and the other 11. They like to pee multiple times. They are both geriatric and constantly need to pee which is an identifiable geriatric condition for the populus living in TV. I have them pee first in my yard before a walk. If the one can't make it to the common area to pee, sorry she will go in the street so there's that. Beware of going barefoot on public roads but it's better than infringing on someone's lawn. Be sure to post when the first living creature no longer has excrement. It will make for an interesting thread to on ToTV. |
95% who walk on everyone else's property and think they are right

No ordinance for this
As much as I hate NY, they do have a law that requires pet owners to pick up after their dogs. We did it when our Corgi was alive, and it just isn't a big deal to do. Maybe TV needs to pass requirements, let people video offenders and turn them in for healthy fines.

When you see someone letting their dog do his business in your yard instead of peering out the crack in blinds and watching it
Grow a pair and go tell them to get off your lawn and pick up the pretty simple |

I find dog owners leave such a mess in public bathrooms! :icon_wink: |
I agree. I have nothing against dogs (used to own them) and they always pooped in our yard because of our fence. Since we moved here, I have often wondered why people don’t allow them to poop in their own yards. Not all of us have dogs and don’t like seeing them poop in our yards, even if it is picked up because it leaves residue. I don’t like walking in my yard near the street because of this. Just my thoughts since I don’t have dogs.

Community Watch or Community Standards WILL NOT remove anything that has not had a complaint called in by someone in the neighborhood.

Streets-NOT neighbors yard. Did you read the post?

I read through this whole thread and, have unfortunately come to the conclusion that MOST Villagers should not be dog owners, they don't have a clue. NO IT IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE DOG, BUT IT IS THE IGNORANCE OR LAZINESS OF THE OWNER.
Get rid of retractable dog leashes and use a short leash so that you can control where your dog relieves itself. Do not take your dog to another area to relieve itself, it's your dog keep it in your neighborhood. Carry dog poop bags and use them and take it home with you instead of throwing the bag in the curb or in the storm drains. Yes, you do that .... there is a storm drain outside my home and I have watched you throw your waste in the drain. For those of you who KNOW how to own a dog a BIG THANK YOU. |
A reasonable request is to pickup after your dog.
|
Good luck. Dog owners don’t care about anyone else.

What you allow in your yard is your business. Just because another dog owner is more tolerant, does not mean that someone else MUST be of same mind when it comes to health and sanitation. Some of us mow our own lawns and do not wish to step on a neighbor's dog's residue and then track into our home. Some dog owners will never understand, just like some folks that do not like or tolerate cats will never understand those that do. Anyone that assumes that it is ok for them to allow their dogs to relieve themselves on someone else's property, are irresponsible and selfish. I wonder what a dog owner would think if I was to use my smart phone remote control of my sprinkler system to suddenly come on when they are in my yard. Would that be unreasonable? After all, it IS my property. I love animals, but my property is my castle and I do not tolerate inconsiderate neighbors that believe they can drive on my lawn or walk their dogs on it. I use chemicals on my lawn and landscaping and I do not wish to harm animals. It is not my responsibility to "protect" or notify my dog owner neighbors when I treat my lawn. Believe me, I have had a neighbor request that I tell them when I treat my lawn so that they would not allow their dog to use my yard. I hope that my lack of response along with my incredulous look was sufficient. Like I said before, I love animals but I do not believe that it is asking too much for other folks to respect a neighbor's property. If signs were allowed here, I would post a warning. |

However, I do see dog owners who are disrespectful of other’s property. Dogs don’t need to walk on extension leashes and they don’t need to be in the middle of your yard. The edge 2-3 feet is enough and makes it easy to pick up after them. On the other hand, get over yourself. If you find a way to keep the rats, birds, rabbits, worms, roaches, etc. from pooping in your yard, please let the rest of us know. |

Instead of the violated homeowner "growing a pair", dog walkers could grow a brain so they can understand that trespassing is wrong, or grow a heart so they would have some respect and compassion for their neighbors and quit violating their property. |

As for wildlife using our lawns, that's not even related to the subject. Pets are OWNED and supposedly under control of their owners. If you can't control your pets, it is best for you to learn or give it to someone else that knows how. |

Dogs need exercise, I assume like you, and they need to go for a walk beyond their house. As long as the owner picks up after them, then no harm no foul. Maybe you can buy in the Enclave where the properties are hugs and most likely not many dogs. Otherwise, you won't get your wish.

"The edge 2-3 feet" is still out of bounds! You don't get it. Your trespassing. Period. Use the sidewalk or the street! NOT someone else's yard. Not one square inch is yours! "KEEP OFF THE GRASS." Lastly, all the "what about the" blah blah blah deflection is bs. You get over Yourself and be a good and responsible pet owner and stay off the neighbors lawn. Don't worry about the wildlife. They are fine. |
Yep, you put it in a nutshell.

You found a poop? It could be a dog, or a coyote or a bear or an alligator or plenty of other critters...... so quityerbitchin.

Everyone can tell that either you have never owned a dog or just don’t remember that they don’t poop on command! As long as the dog owner is a responsible person and ALWAYS picks up the poop, no harm is being done to your yard at all!

2. When they say it's not stolen, and advise you that your only recourse is to tow it at your expense, call a tow truck and have it removed. Cheaper than cleaning up the mess. 3. Let police know you did that, and the tow truck company used. 4. Neighbor will call police to report car missing. They will tell them it was towed away. Everything is documented and 100% legal. |
Nope. Not a reasonable request at all, for reasons having to do with the basic nature of dogs. Ain't gonna happen.
The vast majority of the people I meet while walking my dog are friendly and love to see him. They call him to them, they pet him, we have wonderful conversations, and I get to meet my neighbors. Instead of trying to control everyone else's behavior to meet your personal unwritten standards, I suggest you focus on what YOU can do. Under Florida law, the crime of trespassing requires a posting of private property. As one of the minority who doesn't want pets on your property, YOU can buy a small sign at any pet department and put it on your lawn. Then I'll cheerfully keep my dog off your property. |

Wow, I hope karma isn't watching you closely, if so you're in big trouble. |
How many times can this topic be discussed? Dogs walk, dogs poop. Responsible owners keep their dogs off of other’s property. Mine poops in the street and yes, I’m serious. I pick it up and bring it home. Mine can poop in my yard and then poop again on a walk ten minutes later. You know what they say, poop happens
|
My dog does his business in my yard and then we go for a walk.
|
Hmmm let me see....dogs have been around as long as I can remember. But one thing I remember was growing up in MN suburbs I don't remember anyone ever walking a dog! They either had fenced in yards or they would go out with the dog in their yard to let it do it's thing(even in sub zero temps). I believe that now days walking a dog has to do more with the owner(wanting to show off or them wanting to be seen and possibly meeting someone they are not familiar with)
